It’s been a while since we’ve seen Lena Dunham in front or behind the camera. Luckily, she’s set to make her return to the entertainment world soon with a new Netflix series called Too Much. We shared everything we know so far about the upcoming series below.

This will be Dunham’s first-ever Netflix project. Unfortunately, she will not be starring in this show, though. Instead, she will be working behind the scenes as co-creator, writer, director, and executive producer. She, along with her husband, Luis Felber, are working together to create the rom-com series for Netflix.

Felber is also signed as executive producer along with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Michael P. Cohen, Surian Fletcher-Jones, and Bruce Eric Kaplan. In addition, Camilla Bray is a producer of the show, and Felber will be providing original music.

What is Too Much about on Netflix?

The upcoming Netflix original series will consist of 10 episodes that are about 30 minutes each. It will tell the love story of an American woman and a British man.

Jessica is a hard-working woman in her mid-30s living in New York. But when she experiences a bad breakup that leaves her distraught, she decides to pack all her things and move across the world to London for a new job. After her breakup, she’s done with relationships and love and would rather be alone. But then she meets Felix, a British man who is completely different from her and sparks fly.

Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix:

"Jessica is a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. When every block in New York tells a story of her own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Bronte sister. But when she meets Felix – who is less Hugh Grant in Notting Hill and more Hugh Grant’s drunken roommate – she finds that their unusual connection is impossible to ignore, even as it creates more problems than it solves. Now they have to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits actually speak the same language? From the creator of Girls and the producers of Love Actually, Too Much is an ex-pat rom-com for the disillusioned who wonder if true love is still possible, but sincerely hope that it is."

The two main leads have been announced. Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe will be playing the main characters, Jessica Salmon and Felix Remen.

Here are their character descriptions provided by Netflix.

  • Jessica Salmon If you’d met Jessica ten years ago, you would have been blinded by her inner light – but life has taken her on a walkabout, when she thought she was just taking a quick jog. Felix upends all her expectations, but it turns out that trusting someone is scarier than trusting no one.
  • Felix Remen – Felix is a very different kind of 35 – acting eternally 18, dressed like a punk elf, running as fast as he can from a trauma he can’t name, sleeping with every woman who stays in the bar past closing time and waking up wondering why he can’t just enjoy a night alone. Born in the UK and raised between English boarding schools and his extended family in Japan, he feels neither here nor there. Making music is his only consolation – music that no one listens to.

More casting details should be announced as the show moves further into the filmmaking process.

Is there a release date?

Sadly, there isn’t a release date for the new series just yet because it was just announced to be in the works. However, production is slated to start sometime in 2024 in the UK.

Once more information on the production schedule is released, we’ll make sure to share it with you right away. With an official production schedule, we should have a better idea of when the new series could come to Netflix.
