To be completely honest and transparent, Netflix is adding 45 titles this week, not 11. But 34 of those are the typical first-of-the-month glut of titles to replace all the shows they've taken out of rotation. If you're a fan of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, better catch him soon!
As for all the titles coming to your favorite streaming service this week, there are two major titles that have fans amped up to 11 for their debuts. No, This Is Spinal Tap won't be one of the titles coming this week, but a guy can dream, right?
Some notable titles are hiding among those 34 new arrivals on the first of the month. Just a few of the gems you'll find: the Julia Roberts romance Eat Pray Love, Keanu Reeves thriller Constantine, and Steven Soderbergh's classic caper series, Oceans 11 and its sequels. For those of you who subscribe to the sparkly vampire vibe, the entire Twilight movie series is available as well.
Netflix debuts both a highly anticipated sci-fi and a major comedy series this week
There's a lot of buzz for both of those series, and deservedly so. But before we get to those, we've got a few other new arrivals to discuss. Netflix launches the new week with Chef's Table: Legends. The new four-episode series celebrates 10 years of the award-winning show.
Each episode centers on a culinary star. You'll see Jamie Oliver, José Andrés, Thomas Keller, and Alice Waters. I can't wait to watch Uncle Roger's reaction to that first episode.
Two days later, Netflix hits hard with a documentary about the Vietnam War. The five-part series, Turning Point: The Vietnam War, arrives in time for the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. The conflict had a tremendous impact on American society - and obviously on Vietnam. Archival footage reveals details that even those of us who were around at the time didn't know - until now.
The kids get the 327th installment of a long-running series with Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight. Next up is Exterritorial, a thriller that tracks a mother whose son disappears inside a U.S. consulate overseas. The big hitter on Wednesday is the science fiction series The Eternaut.
The six-episode series from Argentina follows the survivors of an apocalyptic snowstorm. When you get snow in summer, that's not good. They now face an alien invasion. Even the trailer gives me a bit of a fright.
We turn back to reality with the true crime documentary Angi: Fake Life, True Crime. There's nothing like truth in advertising. Okay, time to lighten the mood. The Biggest Fan is a Spanish-language comedy that follows Lana Cruz, an actress trying to resurrect her career after her star dims in Hollywood. Taking a role in Mexico turns out to be her worst decision, as she meets her biggest fan, who's also her biggest nightmare.
And now we reach the other challenger for the new number one series on Netflix. The Four Seasons certainly has the pedigree to pull it off. Based on the classic comedy-drama written, directed, and starring Alan Alda, this iteration promises to be a fresh take on the story of three couples who cope with their changing relationship over time—Co-creator Tina Fey stars along with Colman Domingo, Will Forte, and Steve Carell. Sign me up for this vacay, please.
