Netflix 2025 film slate: 7 can't miss movies and one that might be a dud

We cannot wait.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

2025 is going to be great for Netflix. Sure, we have not seen all the streamer is going to gift us, but let's presume that things will be terrific. Netflix has never (mostly) let us down.

Some people complain there are too many foreign titles on the streamer. This seems...well, odd. Netflix is a global company and foreign films and shows can be just as good as the English-language ones.

Still, most of the films below should make all folks happy. They should be excellent adds to Netflix's already impressive catalog. Just don't hate us if we get one of them wrong.

Seven must-see films (and one to skip) coming to Netflix in 2025

Happy Gilmore 2 (To be determined)

Watch! Whatever the premise, we know that Adam Sandler's character is going to play some golf, and hilarity will commence. The original film was funny fluff, and this one might be as well. But that is perfectly fine. When we need a laugh, Sandler rarely disappoints.

The cast list is full of celebrities that include Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny (who we know appears as Happy's caddie for some length of time), and Julie Bowen. We can expect a lot of unannounced cameos as well.)

The Electric State (March 14)

Watch! This one stars Millie Bobby Brown. Should we go on? Fine. The film is set in an alternative 1990s when robots and humans are seemingly equals. Brown's character (we assume) traverses the American West in search of her lost brother. Sounds fantastic.

The Life List (March 28)

Miss! Even the synopsis of the film sounds boring. A child is pushed forth to complete a parent's bucket list, and in the midst of doing so, we are brought laughter, tears, and romance. Is this a Hallmark film? In other words, it will likely turn out great and be an Oscar nominee.

The Old Guard 2 (July 2)

Watch! Sequels can be hit and miss, but having Charlize Theron reprise her role as a mercenary sounds terrific whether this is the second film in the series or the 20th. The first film was surprisingly great, and full of twists with a lot of action. The critics even liked it. Oh, and Theron also produces the film.

Frankenstein (Fall - November)

Watch! It is Guillermo del Toro doing horror. What could go wrong? You know the story already (there is a monster involved), but that does not make the film any less potentially interesting. The cast is also terrific and includes Christoph Waltz and Oscar Isaac.

Jay Kelly (Fall)

Watch! A comedy starring George Clooney? Yes, please. Oh, and Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, and Jim Broadbent also help make up the cast. There is no real plotline yet, but let's just assume it will be great. It's Clooney in a comedy! Also, Noah Baumback is directing and co-writing the script. That is a win.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Fall)

Watch! The Knives Out films are can't-miss because the filmmakers know the limits of what they are supposed to be doing. It will be a whodunit and will be well-written enough to keep us guessing. Plus, with Rian Johnson directing and Daniel Craig leading the cast, how can one not be entertained?

Steve (To be determined)

Watch! This movie stars Cillian Murphy as the headteacher at a reform school who is struggling with his own mental health while trying to keep students from stepping out of line. It all takes place within 24 hours and is based on Max Porter's novel Shy. Sounds intense and like a perfect role for Murphy. And a perfect viewing for Netflix subscribers.
