Nemesis creator's first hit show set for Netflix debut following season 2 shakeup

There's some exciting news for Nemesis fans, particularly those who are also fans of creator Courtney A. Kemp's past television work. While the Netflix thriller will return with a second season, albeit with an unfortunate behind the scenes shuffle, the streaming service has also now acquired Kemp's first-ever TV hit, the Starz drama Power, and three of its spinoffs.

After Netflix renewed Nemesis season 2 earlier this summer, over a month after the series dropped in May, the streamer's new breakout favorite received the unfortunate update that showrunner Courtney A. Kemp was leaving her post at the helm of the series due to her new overall deal at Apple TV. While Kemp won't be leading the charge on season 2, more of her work is coming to Netflix.

Power and three spinoffs coming to Netflix in November 2026

On July 27, about one week after the news of Kemp stepping down as showrunner on Nemesis season 2, Netflix acquired the streaming rights to Power and three of its spinoffs from Lionsgate, bringing the franchise to the streamer for the first time. Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force begin streaming on Netflix in November 2026.

While the series will be available to stream on Netflix internationally, all of the shows in the Power universe will also remain available to watch on all Starz platforms. However, Power is moving from its additional streaming home of Hulu to Netflix. Upcoming spinoffs Power: Origins and Power: Legacy aren't currently included in Netflix's deal with Lionsgate, though keep your fingers crossed.

An official date on when the series will drop on Netflix hasn't been announced just yet, but it's exciting to know that fans will be able to watch every episode of every season. The streamer picked up all six seasons of Power, all four seasons of Power Book II: Ghost, all five seasons of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and all three seasons of Power Book IV: Force. That's the ultimate streaming marathon.

The fact that Netflix would want access to Kemp's beloved television franchise makes sense given the success of Nemesis this year. Additionally, Kemp previously had an overall deal with Netflix, which she left Lionsgate for, but Nemesis was the only series created under that pact before she jumped ship again to Apple TV. Having her past work seen despite minimal collaboration is a great trade-off.

Power's imminent arrival on Netflix later this year also has complicated timing, though. Just before this exciting news broke, Nemesis season 2 received the unfortunate update of Kemp leaving the series as showrunner, though she will still be on board as an executive producer. Sure, the Power news is exciting, but you can't help but be bummed about Kemp's exit from her latest hit.
