It's been a career-defining year for Michael B. Jordan, who has already had an incredibly successful career as an actor. But Jordan took home his first Academy Award win for his dual role in the critically acclaimed blockbuster Sinners, in which he played twins Smoke and Stack. After such a celebratory and life-changing moment, the actor is back with his next new movie on Netflix.
However, don't expect to see the actor stepping into a role as dark and twisty as that in Sinners, and don't even expect to see him on screen. His first new movie since winning his Oscar isn't coming to theaters and isn't a live-action movie. Jordan's starring in the new Netflix animated family comedy Swapped, which arrives on our watch lists in May and now has a trailer.
Swapped starring Michael B. Jordan is coming to Netflix in May 2026
Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple lead the voice cast of the Skydance Animation adventure comedy Swapped, premiering on Friday, May 1, 2026. In the movie, Ollie (Michael B. Jordan), a small woodland creature, mysteriously trades places with his enemy, a bird named Ivy (Juno Temple), sending them on a magical adventure that brings them closer to an unlikely friendship.

In addition to Jordan and Temple, who are featured in the starring roles and technically lend their voices to both of the main animals, the cast of Swapped also includes Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Justina Machado, Ambika Mod, Lolly Adefope, and Táta Vega. The movie comes from director Nathan Greno, who co-directed Disney's Tangled.
Oddly enough, Swapped was originally intended to be released on Apple TV before Netflix ended up striking a distribution deal with Skydance Animation. The movie previously planned to release on Netflix in June 2025, which would have coincided with the release of Sinners, but Swapped was ultimately pushed to May 2026. On top of streaming worldwide on Netflix, the movie will also have a limited theatrical release, giving some fans a chance to see the film on the big screen.
After Sinners, some Michael B. Jordan fans probably weren't expecting his first new movie to be an animated family comedy. Some newly crowned Oscar winners are intentional about their next moves being something that really leans into that win, but because Jordan's already an in-demand actor, he had plenty of projects lined up prior to Sinners even hitting theaters or heading into award season.
Following Swapped's release on Netflix in May 2026, Jordan will next be seen in the romantic heist drama film The Thomas Crown Affair, which comes from Amazon MGM Studios and will hit theaters on March 5, 2027. His production company also has other projects in development for the Oscar winner to potentially star in, which makes the next chapter of his career that much more exciting.
Ahead of Swapped making its premiere on May 1, Netflix released the official trailer with a special message from Michael B. Jordan and his niece and nephew. Watch in the video below!
