Warning: This post contains spoilers from Outer Banks season 5 from this point forward.
After almost two years of waiting, Outer Banks season 5 has landed on our watch lists. The final adventure with the Pogues might be the most emotionally charged one yet, and not just because after our season 5 binge-watch ends, we have to say goodbye to the Pogues. But also because the group is still grappling with JJ's murder and seeking some kind of revenge for his death.
For the Pogues, revenge looks different depending on who you ask. Most of the group simply wants to steal the Blue Crown back from Chandler Groff, JJ's biological father who killed him, and turn him in to the cops. But if you ask Kiara, she wants to kill him herself for taking JJ away from her. She's insistent on her plan, and her friends are, for the most part, supportive in helping her see it through.
But does revenge look the same to Kie by the end of Outer Banks season 5? It's a major question to considering after everything the Pogues experience in the final season. She has a couple near misses with Groff, one in particular where she couldn't pull the literal trigger. Kiara also leans on her hope that the crown could bring JJ back. So, which form of revenge finally worked for Kie?

Does Kiara kill Chandler Groff in Outer Banks season 5?
Ultimately, Kiara does end up being responsible for Chandler Groff's death in the Outer Banks series finale. Hurricane Cassandra hits the Outer Banks and devastates Kildare, creating panic across the island as residents rush toward safety. When the Pogues learn from Rose that Groff is back and stole the Royal Merchant gold, it's just another mustache-twirling villain plot twist.
Kie discovers his location and tracks him down to the sailboat he steals and takes out into the ocean during the storm. Through severe wind and rain and tumultuous waves, Kiara confronts and attacks Groff on the boat. Looking to kill him how he killed JJ, she brought a knife and gets one stab into his side, which doesn't fulfill the full revenge mission as intended.
Groff ends up getting the upper hand on Kie and attempts to kill her, but she's able to press a lever that raises Groff up and tangles him in ropes. He hangs over the edge of the boat and above the water. The heavy mast disconnects from the boat and falls into the water, sinking to the depths of the ocean with Groff still tangled in the ropes. If he survived that, he's truly invincible.
While we don't see Groff's body, which is always the rule of television—if you don't see a body, they're not dead—we have to remember that even if Groff was able to untangle himself, he was dragged deep underwater. He was also stabbed and bleeding. Let's just say that it's safe to assume that Groff became shark food fairly quickly. But yes, Kie does in fact get her revenge for JJ.
Still in the midst of the hurricane, Kiara's able to radio out to John B and the group riding out the storm in the lighthouse, and they come to her rescue. In an effort to save her boat from sinking, she dropped the Royal Merchant gold into the ocean, willing to sacrifice the gold to stay alive. In the end, the Pogues track the location she dropped the gold and John B extracts every last piece. Kie uses her portion to rebuild JJ's home and honor Poguelandia as something truly beautiful
