Kate Winslet has had a fantastic career, of course. She has starred in some of your favorite films, such as The Holiday and a small film called Titanic. She has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, and she won for 2009's The Reader. But there is one thing she has never done before.
That would be directing a film. She has produced several projects, and she has even helped write a TV series. But direct? Nope, not yet.
She will soon do that, however. She will be the director of the Netflix movie Goodbye June, which she will also star in. The plotline follows a group of siblings who seemingly have grown apart only to be forced back together again during a trying time. We do not know yet what that trying time is, of course, but do we want to know before we see the film? Unlikely.
Kate Winslet set to make directorial debut in Netflix's Goodbye June
Winslet will also produce the film, so she will be doing a trifecta. The only thing she won't be doing is writing the film. That is being done by Joe Anders. He appears to have never written a movie script before, but in the veteran hands of Winslet, his work should be well-represented.
Besides Winslet, the cast will be ridiculously good. Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn (Ripley, Emma), Andrea Riseborough (Alice & Jack), Timothy Spall (Harry Potter films), and Helen Mirren. We didn't want to break down Collette's and Mirren's credits here because they are far too vast and high-quality. Let's just assume you know them.
Production has not yet started on the film (Netflix only announced that it will start "soon"), so there is clearly no release date for the project. The release will certainly not be in 2025, and maybe not in 2026. At least, it is unlikely to be near the beginning of the year. Seeing how great of a job Winslet has done as an actress, we can safely assume that when her directorial debut, Goodbye June, is released, the movie will be grand.
