What mental energy it must take to sustain the excellence of Squid Game. Maybe the games have been around for centuries, but the way the children's exercises are used in the immensely popular Netflix series is unique.
Trying to find ways to maintain the wonderment of the individuality of the show likely makes Squid Game nearly impossible to continue beyond season 3, the planned final season of the show.
But what if there could be more of your favorite show, only not taking place in the future? You would want that, right?
Could Squid Game 1.5 be a realistic possibility?
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk was recently stopped by IndieWire and seemingly asked what a Squid Game spin-off might look like. The shocking part wasn't that the creator made up an answer, but that he seemed to have a fully formed one. Possibly, he unintentionally gave us a glimpse of a realistic possibility.
Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "I have an idea, if I make a spin-off, it would be halfway between seasons 1 and 2. The (is) like a three-year gap between season 1 and 2, so I must show what (the characters) did through those times."
In other words, a Squid Game spin-off could be version 1.5, and we would get to follow the main characters for three years. There were obviously a lot of changes between the first two seasons, and why some of those changes occurred is unknown.
It would certainly be fun to find out, and why would Netflix not make that happen?
As far as the final season of the show, that drops on Friday, June 27. It likely picks up where the second season left off (seasons 2 and 3 seem more like one season split in two), which means Gi-hun's failed rebellion is in ruins, and lots of carnage remains. Still, the Front Man is allowing Gi-hun to live? Why? We can't wait to find out.
Could it be that the Front Man and Gi-hun know each other or are related? In first-look photos, both are dressed in tuxedos. Are those current or flashbacks?
Maybe a Squid Game 1.5 would give us more insight into the relationship between the two. Possibly, they are somehow involved with the Recruiter. Many plotlines remain open, and a look into the lives of the characters between seasons 1 and 2 might only enrich how the series ends.
