Matthew Law TV shows

Matthew Law is a Seattle-raised American actor and filmmaker. According to Famous Birthdays, he was born on Nov. 6, 1991, which makes him currently 34 years old. In addition, he's a Scorpio. When it comes to his relationship status, Law tends to keep his personal life fairly private. There is no widely confirmed public information indicating that he is currently married or in a publicly acknowledged relationship.

The biggest reason he looks familiar is his recurring role in ABC’s hit comedy Abbott Elementary. He plays O’Shon, the IT specialist at the school who becomes romantically involved with Principal Ava Coleman.

Even though he’s not a main cast member, O’Shon quickly became a fan-favorite supporting character thanks to his awkward charm and comedic timing. Since Abbott Elementary has been one of the most talked-about sitcoms in recent years, a lot of viewers instantly recognize him from there. If you’ve been watching network TV in the last few years, this is probably your strongest “aha!” moment.

But before comedy brought him wider attention, Law spent years in the world of political drama. He played Kareem Richardson in Tyler Perry’s long-running BET series The Oval, appearing across multiple seasons in a major recurring role. This is actually one of his biggest credits in terms of episode count.

Here's a list of the other TV shows Law has appeared in over the years:

  • Tyler Perry's The Paynes as Kendrick
  • Shooter as Young Colby
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Agent Julian
  • NCIS: Los Angeles as Josh McCall
  • True Story as Davis Wilcher
  • Home Economics as Brendan
  • Ahsoka as Captain Porter
  • Based on a True Story as Nick

Matthew Law movies

Law’s film work may not be as extensive as his television career, but it’s still a key part of his growing résumé. It's also another reason audiences often recognize him even if they can’t immediately place where from.

One of his more notable film appearances came in A Fall from Grace (2020), the Tyler Perry–directed Netflix thriller. In the film, he played Jordan Bryant, a supporting character in a story centered around a woman accused of murder and the twists that unfold during her trial. The movie reached a massive global audience through Netflix, giving Law exposure to viewers who may not have seen his earlier TV work.

He also appeared in Magic Carpet Rides (2023), a romantic drama that explores an unlikely relationship between two very different people living completely opposite lifestyles. Then, in 2024, Law appeared in This Is Me… Now: A Love Story. It's a highly stylized music-film project tied to Jennifer Lopez’s album of the same name. In the film, he is credited as “The Cynic."

Beyond these titles, Law has also been involved in smaller independent productions and early-career film work. Now that Nemesis is out, we're looking forward to seeing what's next for this talented actor as he steps further into the spotlight!
