Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 is going to be a hoot. Even the trailer brings some laughs, and we can assume, based on the previous Happy Gilmore, that the flick will be worth watching. It might not be Oscar material, but that isn't the point. The point is to have a fun time.
The sequel will, of course, star Sandler as Happy but also feature Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and, of course, Christopher McDonald. There will also be a number of cameos from well-known celebrities and athletes.
One part of the original film that will not be part of the second is an alligator named Morris. Unfortunately, he passed away recently from old age at his gator farm home in Colorado. Based on his teeth and growth rate, he was presumed to be around 80 years old. But he wasn't just a one-film star.
Morris the alligator from Happy Gilmore has died
Morris appeared in many movies and series. The list includes Interview with the Vampire, Dr. Dolittle 2, Blues Brothers 2000, Night Court, and Coach. This all happened after he was found in the backyard of a Los Angeles home where he was being kept illegally. He was eventually moved to Colorado Gator Farm, which opened to the public in 2000.
Sandler posted a tribute to Morris on Instagram, writing in part, "Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers - really anyone with arms or legs - but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film. The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless we sent in 40 heads of lettuce taught me a powerful lesson: never compromise your art."
The farm where Morris lived wrote on Facebook that the alligator would be taxidermied so that he could continue to "scare" people who came to the farm, and that is what Morris would have wanted. Funny.
One wonders if the alligator had as much humor, but something about him clearly made filmmakers want to keep using him in the projects. Maybe it was his outsized personality or easy-going demeanor. (That is just a guess, though, as we here at Netflix Life have never met Morris.)
Happy Gilmore 2 will be released on July 25, 2025, on your favorite streaming service. The sequel has been a 30-year wait. The film is a must-see.
