Ginny & Georgia star Sara Waisglass lands major role in time-twisted YA romance film

A familiar face from one of Netflix’s most popular teen dramas is stepping into a brand-new romantic universe. Sara Waisglass, best known for her role as Maxine “Max” Baker in Ginny & Georgia, has officially joined the cast of the upcoming YA romance film The One Before The One.

The movie is already generating early buzz thanks to its cast, which also includes Charlie Gillespie and Siena Agudong, and its concept that fuses late-90s nostalgia with a life-do-over premise that challenges the idea of “perfect” love.

A YA romance with a time-bending twist

According to Deadline, Brittany Sarkisian wrote the script for The One Before The One and is set to direct the film. In addition, she penned the screenplay based on a story that was written by John E. Clark. The cameras are slated to start rolling on the movie in Austin, Texas, on July 6, and Blue Fox Entertainment will launch the project at the Cannes Film Market.

So, what is The One Before The One about? Well, it centers on a life that gets a second shot at being rewritten. But not in the way most people would expect. The story follows Steven, a burned-out Wall Street analyst who returns to his hometown for a 20-year high school reunion. But what begins as a nostalgic trip quickly turns into something far more surreal when Steven is suddenly transported back to his senior year of high school.

Instead of simply remembering his past, he is forced to relive it with full awareness of everything that comes after. That shift changes everything. Believing he can correct the trajectory of his life, Steven becomes fixated on rewriting key moments from his teenage years. At the center of that mission is Beth, his former lost love, whom he has spent decades idealizing as the “one that got away.”

With a second chance in front of him, he sets out to recreate that relationship and steer it toward what he believes is the perfect outcome. But he soon realizes that the Beth he remembers may not actually be as perfect as he thought. The film also expands beyond romance as Steven reconnects with other key figures from his past. While making changes, he tries to help his best friend Brian avoid missing out on football success. He also works to rebuild his relationship with another old friend, Katie.

Gillespie, who is best known for his previous role in Julie and the Phantoms, takes on the lead role of Steven. On the other hand, Agudong (Sidelined: The QB and Me) plays Beth. Last but not least, we have Waisglass portraying the role of Katie. They're the only actors who have been cast in the film so far. However, there will probably be more cast additions soon as the movie prepares for production.

Besides The One Before The One and Ginny & Georgia season 4, fans can look forward to seeing Waisglass in the upcoming romantic drama film Into the Deep Blue. That said, make sure to keep these projects on your radar!
