If you loved the first season of The Gentlemen (and why wouldn't you?), you are going to be happy with Netflix's latest announcement. Not only will there be a second season of the show you like, but it's already in production.
To catch those up who haven't seen the series yet, the plotline follows Eddie Halstead (Theo James) after he inherits an estate that is running out of money. On the land, he finds Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), who has an underground, but massive, marijuana-growing business.
To help the estate stay afloat, Eddie teams up with Susie, and chaos rightfully ensues. The series is based on Guy Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name, and is full of action, laughs, and some drama, and it all goes by fast. If you blink, you might miss quite a bit.
Netflix announces season 2 of The Gentlemen is in production
According to Deadline, season 2 "picks up one year after Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well."
Ritchie will co-write the second season again as well as direct many of the episodes. In other words, the brilliance of the first season should roll over into season 2.
Plus, the cast is expanding. Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville will appear, as will Maya Jama. This implies the fun factor of the show will be upped even more. The roles are not yet truly defined, but that helps build the anticipation of the next season.
Perhaps the Halstead estate is simply how Downton Abbey has ended up now, and Bonneville will appear in flashbacks as Robert Crawley, head of Halstead. (That is all something we would wish for other than it being a fact.)
