Netflix fans, your life is about to change. Your favorite viewing content might not be all that different, but how you find it will. The streaming giant announced this week that the formatting for how they present their suggestions and what you previously watched will soon appear much different.
Just how different? Think Apple TV instead of Netflix. One is much bigger than the other in terms of who pays to see the content, but one is seemingly encroaching on the other in terms of how it looks.
The weird part is that Apple TV is dismissing series such as Mythic Quest because it is losing money. Still, the decision-makers at other companies are taking notice of how Apple tried to grow its brand and what subscribers liked. Netflix is building on that.
What changes are coming to how Netflix is formatted?
Netflix will move its main menu from the left-hand side to the middle of the page. This is the way that Apple TV does it, too. Interestingly, Apple TV has so many fewer subscribers than Netflix (45 million for Apple and more than 300 million for your favorite streaming service). Still, Apple TV inspires Netflix to decide what to do.
Title descriptions will appear more compact, and recommendations will be more personalized based on when subscribers watch what they do and when they do it. For instance, if you watch Squid Game at 2 pm and The Four Seasons at 7 pm, you will get like-minded suggestions at those times.
Plus, if you like gaming and live events, you will probably be inundated with them. Netflix is placing a premium on that kind of content for several reasons. Gaming is pure profit. Plus, the streamer is spending a lot of money to give us live events, so why not advertise for them? It makes good financial sense.
