Finding Her Edge season 2 begins filming sooner than fans expected

It's been a great year for new Netflix shows. Between gripping mysteries like I Will Find You and His & Hers and hilarious comedies like Big Mistakes and The Hawk, the streaming service has kept us entertained throughout the year. The young adult drama series Finding Her Edge kicked off 2026, giving Netflix its own hit show that takes place on the ice.

Thankfully, Netflix quickly renewed the fan-favorite series, which is based on the book of the same name by Jennifer Iacopelli, for a second season. Finding Her Edge season 2 has been one of the most highly anticipated Netflix shows, and earlier this summer, we caught wind that filming was tentatively slated to begin this fall. Well, it's actually going to start much earlier.

While celebrating its collection of young adult content and sharing new details about future releases, Netflix confirmed on Aug. 14 that Finding Her Edge season 2 begins filming at the end of August. The production is expected to take place from Aug. 24 through mid-December 2026, which completely rules out a release before the end of the year. But the book's sequel hints at a possible release date.

Finding Her Edge season 2 will premiere in 2027

In addition to Finding Her Edge season 2 coming out sometime in 2027, Iacopelli also prepares for the release of the original book's official sequel. On Thin Ice was originally scheduled to be published in February 2027, but the novel has since been pushed back to hit shelves on May 4, 2027. The book's new publishing date could lead us toward a possible season 2 release date.

Even though fans might have been hoping that Finding Her Edge season 2 would be released within one year of the first season, it's basically off the table for the new episodes to be ready for release by January 2027. The first quarter of the new year will be cutting it far too close, which suggests that the second season will be coming in spring 2027, perhaps around the same time as the sequel book.

It's currently unconfirmed whether the second season will be based on or share any storylines with On Thin Ice just yet, but a new book and a new season coming out in the same year is the perfect storm for both entities to capitalize on. If the season borrows from the sequel novel, then there's a possibility that season 2 won't be released until after May 4, 2027.

Either way, given the timeframe of filming and the months that will be spent in post-production, we're predicting a release in late spring or early summer 2027. Keep your fingers crossed for late May at the earliest and August 2027, which one be one year after filming starts, at the very latest. The sweet spot, and the most cautious release date, would be in June 2027.

As Finding Her Edge season 2 goes into production, we're surely going to learn more details about the upcoming episodes, including what to expect from the story and potential casting additions. Madelyn Keys, Cale Ambrozic, and Olly Atkins have been confirmed to reprise their leading roles as Adriana, Brayden, and Freddie, with the main cast also expected to return.
