Matt Damon and Ben Affleck starring in another movie together? It is bound to be great, right? Plus, the film looks like delicious fun where the two characters the actors play do not take themselves so seriously, but still have a job to do.
The Rip, which we now know is coming to Netflix on January 16, 2026. The release date was announced during Netflix's Tudum Live 2025, in which we also got a long look at the movie. What might be slightly odd, though, is that during the presentation for the movie, Affleck said the studio that helped make the film has not yet given it the green light to be viewed.
Here is what we do know, besides the supposed release date and that Damon is sporting a really impressive beard. The movie is a crime pic where Affleck and Damon appear to team up to do...something. Guns are involved, and a bit of buffoonery.
Netflix announces release date for Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's The RIP
The film will also star Teyana Taylor and Sasha Calle, though how they fit into the movie is unknown.
The film will be produced through Damon and Affleck's production company, Artists Equity, with American film director and screenwriter Joe Carnahan (The Grey,The A-Team) writing the screenplay and directing.
The exact plot probably won't be given away until much closer to the release date. Netflix is very good about hiding those details in hopes of building anticipation, but most likely, just having Damon and Affleck working together will get eyes to screens, especially with a fun crime thriller like this.
The duo is never going to make another Good Will Hunting, but they are unlikely to try. The duo works well in any setting. Thankfully, the next outing will be coming to Netflix in January.
