Move over, Sullivan's Crossing! See you later, Squid Game. There's a new No. 1 show on the Netflix Top 10 as of Friday, July 18, and it's a new murder mystery series starring Eric Bana.
The new Netflix original series, Untamed, premiered on Thursday, July 17, and it's already gaining steam and making waves globally for the streamer. If you're a fan of murder mysteries, especially those set in the great outdoors, Untamed is absolutely the show for you to watch on Netflix this weekend.
Mark L. Smith created Untamed with Elle Smith, his daughter. Smith also created the hit Western series American Primeval, which premiered on Netflix earlier this year.
Untamed tells the story of Kyle Turner (Bana), a National Park ranger who is involved in the investigation of a murder at El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in California. As Kyle gets closer to solving the mystery, not everything is as it seems.
Untamed also has a great cast, including Lily Santiago, Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Wilson Bethel.
In addition to the intriguing premise and incredible talent associated with the series, it's stunning. This is one thing we've always been able to count on with Smith's shows and movies. Visually, Untamed is a beautiful series. The setting and scenery are almost more captivating than the story at times.
At the time of publishing, Untamed has not been renewed for season 2 yet, but there's definitely a chance it could happen on Netflix, especially if viewership continues to grow over the next few weeks.
Again, if you're a fan of Netflix murder mysteries, this is definitely the show you should be watching this weekend. Overall, reviews of the series have been decent, but it's clear Netflix subscribers are already tuning in all over the world. We don't see many Netflix originals open at the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10, especially with some heavy hitters like Squid Game, Ginny and Georgia, and now Sullivan's Crossing in the mix.
It's too early to see the exact numbers Untamed is pulling. We'll find that out early next week, but this is as good of an opening as those behind the scenes could have hoped for. I'll be shocked if it isn't one of the biggest Netflix opening weekends of the year.
Stay tuned for more news about the future of Untamed on Netflix!
