There's some celebration in store for Emily in Paris fans! Yes, the beloved Netflix original comedy series has been renewed for season 6 and will return to (hopefully, finally) answer whether Emily and Gabriel will end up together, but the streaming service has also just picked up a brand new series from creator Darren Star that's sure to fit right in with the rom-com hit.
After being in the works since last year, Netflix has officially ordered the new romantic comedy series Uncorked, which comes from executive producers and co-showrunners Darren Star and New Amsterdam creator David Schulner, as well as fellow Emily in Paris executive producers Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns. If you thought Emily's adventures were messy, just wait!
Netflix picks up Darren Star rom-com series Uncorked
Uncorked takes place in the Napa Valley in California as an unlucky in love winemaker returns to the wine haven in search of a second chance at all aspects of life. According to the show's synopsis, she might partake a bit too much in her wine work: "This is a woman whose greatest passion is also her fatal flaw — a failing that, usually begins before lunch on Tuesday."
Netflix ordered the series straight to series, which means now it's all systems go on casting, writing the full season, and getting into production on what's expected to be the 10-episode first season. The streamer didn't reveal where filming will take place, whether that will be on location in Napa (a safe bet based on Emily's locations) or a stand-in location for at least part of the shoot.
The synopsis for Uncorked doesn't give any indication for how old its winemaker protagonist is, but we can assume from the fact that she's looking for a second chance that she's likely not in her 20s. Star has an excellent track record with casting his series with iconic and talented actresses, and that's surely going to be the case with the currently unnamed protagonist of Uncorked.
Likewise, Netflix didn't tease when to expect the new series to make its premiere, though its official order coming in March 2026 essentially rules out the possibility of the show making its premiere on the streamer before the end of the year. With casting, filming, and post-production still on the horizon, we're looking at booking our trip to Napa sometime after the first quarter of 2027.
Star has enjoyed a successful run on Netflix, beginning with Emily in Paris becoming a global sensation and his past series Sex and the City and Younger arriving on the streaming service and catching a second wind of popularity. He also created the short-lived Neil Patrick Harris comedy Uncoupled for the streamer, though the series has since been removed from the platform.
While Uncorked is also produced by Universal Television, the extended collaboration between Star and Netflix will hopefully continue to yield exciting, must-watch results. We'll be share to share all the latest updates on Uncorked, including who snags the coveted leading role!
