Deepwater Horizon is an American biographical disaster film released in 2016. It is an adaptation of The New York Times article, "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours" written by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul.

It has a very powerful narrative based on true events depicting heroism that arose in the time of a deadly crisis. As the name suggestsDeepwater Horizon is all about how the oil drilling rig, aptly named “Deepwater Horizon,” exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, leading to the largest oil spill in the history of the US. This movie is an intense thriller that shows how a blowback at the recently drilled well threatened to destroy the rig along with everyone on it.

This masterwork of a film had a solid cast, which included Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, and Kate Hudson who gave some very strong performances. Along with this, the director Peter Berg also did a tremendous job at capturing the chaos that could have happened in the heat of the hour when the survivors were trying to endure a life-and-death situation.

Deepwater Horizon is an inspirational tale of real-life heroes

The movie was mostly received positively but was certainly a box office hit. It was nominated twice at the 89th Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects and also received a BAFTA award for Best Sound.

The plot revolves around how an oil drilling rig explodes due to excess pressure, which further leads to uncontrollable destruction. This amazing movie is an eye-opener that shows how life-threatening work on an oil rig can be if there are not thorough inspections and proper safety measures taken. The movie is tragic and soul-touching at the same time as it portrays masterfully with precision the final hours of complete horror when those 11 crew members had to lose their lives.

Deepwater Horizon is truly an outstanding piece of cinema for those who are interested in this incident and are keen to learn more about it. The way all the cast members have played their roles under the directorial genius of Peter Berg is truly remarkable.

This film has led its viewers to have nothing but sheer respect for those who leave their families behind in order to work on these oil rigs. Our heart goes out to the lives lost and their families as well for bidding farewell to their loved ones too soon.
