There's a new No. 1 movie on Netflix, and it's a 2025 action thriller, Trap House, starring Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista.
If you're looking for a new action movie to watch tonight, you can't go wrong with Trap House. The film tells the story of DEA agent Ray Seale (Bautista), who is trying to find his kid and their teenage friends after they robbed a drug cartel in Texas.
Trap House has a ridiculously good cast for a small-ish action movie like this. Along with Bautista, Bobby Cannavale, Jack Champion, Sophia Lillis, who was so good in It and Netflix's I'm Not Okay With This, Kate del Castillo of Netflix's Ingobnerable, Tony Dalton, and more.

Trap House, which was just released on Netflix on Feb. 27 after its theatrical premiere in 2025, knocked two huge movies out of the top spot on the Netflix Top 10. Two days ago, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, one of the best Mission: Impossible movies, held the top spot after its Netflix debut. That was bumped out of the No. 1 spot by Firebreak, a Spanish Netflix original movie about a desperate search to find a missing girl in the middle of a wildfire.
It's always so fascinating to see which movies actually hit the No. 1 spot on Netflix, especially when there's not a big Netflix original release that everyone is watching. It's so random, but it's also superhelpful to find new movies to watch.
Trap House only holds a 52% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I think the movie is better than that, personally. Maybe it's because I went into the movie with lower expectations, but there are plenty of action movies with better Rotten Tomatoes scores less entertaining than Trap House.
Overall, Trap House isn't the best action movie you've ever seen. Honestly, it's not even Bautista's action movie by a long shot. But, it checks a lot of boxes for a movie night pick. It's fun, dramatic, full of epic action sequences, and suspense. The performances are good enough. You might not enjoy it, but I did.
