Dan Levy is back with Netflix. After creating and directing the bittersweet film Good Grief in 2024, Levy will helm and star in a new Netflix series that has no name yet. We know three members of the cast, and the show will begin production soon.
We do not need to know too much about the Levy show yet, right? We know we want to see it because Levy is making it. It might not ever reach the heights of the amazingly terrific Schitt's Creek, but few series have.
According to Netflix's Tudum, the new show will follow a dysfunctional organized crime family and focus specifically on two clueless siblings who get blackmailed. The odd part about the Tudum write-up is that it first says the series is a "family drama" and then says it is a "comedy."
Netflix announces forthcoming comedy series starring (and other things) Dan Levy
With Levy involved, we can expect a bit of both, but lean more toward a comedy, especially a series over a film. The author/actor/producer is too good a comedic writer for that part not to shine gloriously through. He has also yet to make something that did not make for an extremely rewarding watch.
The known cast we know so far is Levy, Taylor Ortega (The Four Seasons), and Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird, Hacks). Levy will direct the episodes while also serving as showrunner and producer. Let's hope he is paid well for all those duties, though, judging by his track record, he is probably being paid his worth.
Here is the good part of that last bit, though. Levy has a contract with Netflix to create several things. The new show is just the first. We likely cannot assume that Levy will star in all the future programs, but maybe he turns out to be Netflix's version of HBO/Max's Danny McBride. That would be great for viewers.
As production has yet to start and the cast not fully named, there is obviously no release date for the series. Heck, there isn't even a name yet. We can hope for 2026 to see the show.
