Crew Girl season 2 already looks promising after stellar Netflix ratings debut

If you're one of the millions of fans who tuned into the first season of Crew Girl on Netflix, you helped the Easton Prep rowing team race toward a strong debut on the Global Top 10 Netflix TV Shows ranking. The new teen sports drama arrived and made its presence known, which could certainly bode well for the series' future and fans who are invested in Teagan Tao's love triangle.

During the show's first four days of availability, Crew Girl managed to place in the No. 4 position on the streamer's Global Top 10 English-Language Shows leaderboard for the week of Sept. 7 through Sept. 13. The show brought in 5.2 million views, which translates to 32 million hours viewed based on the show's six-hour runtime. For a modestly budgeted teen drama, that's a great debut.

Crew Girl season 2 could be in the cards thanks to solid Netflix ratings

While it's likely too soon for Netflix to make its decision, as the streamer tends to take a look at a new show's viewership numbers for at least a few weeks, Crew Girl season 2 already looks like a safe bet all things considered. Perhaps a renewal could come sooner than expected if the show's ratings continue to trend upward, which could be likely after peaking at No. 1 on the US daily Top 10 ranking.

Since Crew Girl isn't a series with a major, recognizable star, though series lead Miku Martineau also leads Netflix's Bet, the modest but strong debut ratings are worth the streamer continuing to invest in the show. There's clearly something special here that viewers are connecting with, and the series helps the streamer further boost its young adult roster with another fan-favorite hit.

While the show isn't quite at the viewership heights of My Life with the Walter Boys or Ginny & Georgia quite yet, Crew Girl is right on par with fellow sports romance series Finding Her Edge. The ice skating drama debuted in January to 5.5 million views and earned a second season renewal just a few weeks after making its premiere. We could be looking at a similar trajectory for the rowing drama.

Based on the streamer's support of the show, with Martineau appearing at a number of Netflix events alongside her on-screen love interests Samuel Braun and Kyle Clark, Crew Girl looks to be building its way to another teen sensation. You might look at the show's 5.2 million views and assume that's not as worthy of renewal compared to recent hits like The Gentlemen or Beauty in Black.

But Crew Girl likely isn't being compared to these shows by Netflix or, at least, it shouldn't be. The streamer should be holding it side-by-side with Finding Her Edge and looking at the potential it currently has. The series debuted during one of the most competitive times of the year, right at the start of the fall season, and held its own. A new showing hitting the US Top 10's peak isn't a fluke.

What's more, the ending of Crew Girl season 1 more than warrants a follow-up season. Not only does Teagan make a decision between Josh and Cam, after a complicated season as the only girl on the boys' rowing team, a girls' team is taking shape. But she will have to contend with the most popular girl in school who has been gunning for Teagan since she arrived at Easton.
