Chase Stokes thanks fans as Outer Banks prepares for 'one last ride'
By Reed Gaudens
John B. Routledge is ready to take on his final adventure! Ahead of the release of Outer Banks season 4 part 2 on Nov. 7, Netflix gave the popular teen drama series the green light for a fifth and final season. The season 5 renewal kicked off the highly anticipated season 4 finale release week, and Chase Stokes was among the first of the cast to express their gratitude.
"My hearts heavy writing this one," Stokes captioned his Instagram post. "One last ride. Thank you to everybody who has tuned in these past 5 years. You’ve given us more than we could ever give back to you." Before signing off as his beloved character "JBR," Stokes left his fans with a very apropos message: "It's always gonna be Pogues 4 Life."
As the leader of the Pogues, John B's always the one the group looks to for guidance and direction, so it's fitting that Stokes was the cast member to share the final season announcement directly to his main Instagram feed for the Outer Banks fan community. And don't worry, Chase — all of our hearts are heavy right now! Life won't be the same with new Pogue adventures each year.
Outer Banks cast reacts to final season news
On Nov. 4, Netflix announced the Outer Banks season 5 renewal with a message from co-creators and executive producers Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, which Stokes shared on Instagram. The trio shared that they always envisioned a "five-season journey" and hope to make the Pogues' swan song season "our best yet." It's bittersweet but exciting!
In the comments of Stokes' post on Instagram, a couple of his fellow Pogues joined in the emotional season 5 celebration, with Madison Bailey commenting, "I'm literally crying." Rudy Pankow simply commented a succinct but powerful "P4L" complete with a chicken emoji. Madelyn Cline, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant each also shared the season 5 announcement in their Instagram Stories.
It's surely an odd feeling for the cast as they prepare to embark on their final adventures with the characters they have been playing on Netflix for nearly five years, since the show began filming in 2019 and debuted on Netflix in 2020. They have each become breakout stars with busy careers, but before going their separate ways, there's still one more ride for the Pogues.
Before the final season news broke, the whole cast joined forces at the second annual Poguelandia fan experience in Santa Monica and had been traveling around the world in different groupings promoting the fourth season. With one more season on the way, the cast will surely come together again to promote season 5 once it's ready to release, so fellow Pogues, don't get too sad yet.
