Buffalo Bills fans will appreciate the worldview of Sirens

Bills Mafia involved?

The new Netflix series, Sirens, has nothing to do with football. One might not know it, though, based on some of the conversations the characters get into. The Buffalo Bills love begins in episode one (along with some Kansas City Chiefs hate).

The characters Jose (Felix Solis) and Devon (Meghann Fahy) meet for the first time and, after Jose learns Devon is from Buffalo (Jose is a Miami Dolphins fan), the conversation comes to fruition with both characters saying, "(Expletive) the Chiefs."

But the adoration of the Bills does not stop there. The characters of Devon, her sister Simone, her boyfriend, and her father are all from Buffalo. There is no doubt that they belong to Bills Mafia.

No doubt Buffalo Bills fans will enjoy some aspects of Sirens

In episode four, the Kells are hosting a fictional gala, and wouldn't you know it, but Bills legend Jim Kelly is expected to be there. While sitting around a dinner table, one character asks, "Who is Jim Kelly?" The response from the Buffalo natives is palpable, and a remark of "Oh my god! is heard.

Another character responds by saying, factually, "(Kelly is) the greatest quarterback in Bills history." With another adding, "Ever hear of the K-Gun offense?"

It appears the fictional Kelly visits the Kells once a year, and even brought a fictional Doug Flutie one time. This was enough to make the Buffalo natives who were trying to leave the Kells compound and go back to the city stay. They weren't going to miss out on a potential meeting with Jim Kelly.

Molly Smith Metzler wrote the play that the show is based on, and also created the series for Netflix. There is no word on whether she is a Bills fan. She is an alumna of the State University of New York at Geneseo, so she at least spend time in Bills country.

She is from Kingston, New York, so closer to Giants and Jets country than Buffalo, but there can be no doubt that she understands that there are few fan bases quite like Bills Mafia. Maybe she isn't a certified member (though she might be), but she is likely an honorary member at this point.
