There's some very exciting news for Bridgerton fans to celebrate, even beyond the already exciting news of the fifth season coming to our watch lists next year. After three years of waiting to find out whether Queen Charlotte season 2 would actually happen or if Netflix would order another spinoff to expand the franchise, the streaming service finally answered our biggest question.
Well, a second season of the franchise's Queen Charlotte prequel series isn't happening (yet, at least), but we're heading back in time once again for another exploration of a love story's origin. On Oct. 8, Netflix announced that a spinoff series diving into the young love between Lady Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton has officially been ordered.

The new prequel spinoff series, which doesn't yet have an official title, comes from writer and co-showrunner Shonda Rhimes, who's tackling the new series with Queen Charlotte writer Nicholas Nardini. The first spinoff's director Tom Verica is back behind the camera and Rhimes' long-time collaborator Betsy Beers is also on board as a fellow executive producer with the rest.

As soon as the prequel spinoff's green light announcement hit the internet, there's no doubt that excitement has reached the same heights as those for Bridgerton season 5. But as of the reveal of the new spinoff, Netflix hasn't shared any additional details, including the episode count, when production will begin, the release window, or who will play Young Violet and Young Edmund.
Hopefully, now that the series has been confirmed and likely has made significant progress in the writing process, filming should be able to begin sooner rather than later. Once Rhimes and the team have locked in the spinoff's leads, we will no doubt receive a grand announcement directly from Netflix with another "Dearest Gentle Reader..." address on social media.
While fans will be inclined to make some dream casting predictions, it's hopeful that the creative team will again find relatively unknown actors to play Violet and Edmund. It's also unclear whether India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest could reprise their roles as the young versions of Queen Charlotte and King George III, in addition to other stars from the first prequel spinoff series.
But we should expect to see Ruth Gemmell appear in the spinoff as the present day version of Lady Violet just as she did in Queen Charlotte. Rupert Evans played Edmund in a flashback sequence in Bridgerton season 2, but he could possibly make more appearances as the character, in his version of "present day," in the upcoming prequel. Again, cast announcements haven't been made.
Netflix's announcement of the new Bridgerton prequel series comes on the heels of the news that season 6 is already in the works and will focus on Eloise's love story. The fifth season is expected to drop on Netflix sometime in 2027, marking the first time the beloved romantic drama will arrive with less than two years in between seasons. Now, we also have a spinoff to look forward to.
Stay tuned for more Bridgerton news and updates!
