Bridgerton season 6 gets exciting update including confirmation of the next lead

Bridgerton season 5 might not be coming until 2027, but it seems work has already begun on the sixth season of Netflix’s romantic drama!

Fans will recall Netflix gave Bridgerton a rare two-season renewal back in May 2025 ahead of the show’s fourth season. At the time, it was unclear which books each season would adapt, but Netflix would later confirm that season 5 would adapt the sixth book in the franchise, When He Was Wicked. The book tells the love story of Francesca Bridgerton, which will take center stage in the show’s next season, which is coming much earlier than fans expected.

While Netflix has typically opted to release new seasons of Bridgerton every other year, with season 1 dropping in 2020, season 2 in 2022, season 3 in 2024, and season 4 in 2026, the streaming powerhouse is shaking things up with the release of season 5, which will arrive in 2027. Filming is currently underway on season 5, and it appears work has also already begun on season 6, hinting that Netflix is working to streamline the release of the future seasons of the beloved romantic drama.

It’s long been assumed that season 6 would be based on To Sir Phillip With Love, which tells the love story of Eloise Bridgerton and Sir Phillip Crane. Well, it seems that assumption was correct, as a writer on the show has accidentally confirmed season 6 is not only in development already but that it will tell Eloise’s story.

“We’ve kicked off working on Eloise’s next season and are re-reading the books to prep and see where we left characters off,” writer's assistant Fiona Kida revealed in a since-deleted “Day in the Life” TikTok video.

This is definitely an exciting update, as it’s our first official confirmation that Eloise will be the season 6 lead and will not be skipped over once again. Even more exciting is the fact that work on season 6 has already begun, even if we’re still early in the development and writing processes.

“I took the first set of the notes today, which is really fun in the blue sky phase because everyone is just pitching all these big ideas. The other writers' assistant then took over, and I pitched some things I thought might be cool to see too,” Kida commented, confirming that season 6 is in the early stages of the creative process.

As part of this stage, it seems work is underway on flagging key aspects of Eloise and Phillip’s story for consideration. This includes flagging iconic lines from the book worth weaving directly into the season and major moments fans will likely want to see brought to life.

“I then worked on a document of favorite lines, moments, and set pieces that the writers could use even though they’re also going to be working on this; I just thought it was something that would be wise for me to study too,” Kida revealed via a voiceover that played over footage of her working in her home office while reading To Sir Phillip With Love by Julia Quinn.

Knowing that the writers are hard at work mapping out the season 6 story as we speak is truly exciting. With the writers hard at work identifying the key aspects of the book to include, it won’t be long before the writers begin to put all of their notes and ideas to use and begin writing scripts for the season.

With the writing process already in motion, there is a very real chance that filming on season 6 will take place in 2027, making a 2028 release possible for season 6. This move certainly seems wise, as it could then pave the way for the show to potentially wrap its run in 2030, 10 years after the show’s first season. Of course, this is based on the assumption that the show will be able to fulfill its eight-season plan and shift to an annual release schedule rather than making fans wait two years between seasons.

Only time will tell what is in store for the Bridgerton franchise, but it’s clear Netflix is hard at work on at least delivering the next two seasons to fans the next two seasons in a much tighter timeframe!
