Black Doves was one of Netflix's most successful releases of the holiday season way back in 2024. Almost two years later, the Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw spy thriller is finally back for season 2 at the perfect time.
After venturing heavily into spy thrillers a few years ago, Black Doves is one of the only Netflix shows of the genre still standing, and that's because it's simply excellent. This is one of my favorite Netflix shows of the last few years, and I can't wait to dive back into the world of the Black Doves after Halloween.
Ahead of the Black Doves season 2 premiere, I shared everything fans need to know about the new season, including the release date, time, cast, and what to expect.

When does Black Doves season 2 premiere on Netflix?
Black Doves season 2 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET. If you live in the UK, which is where the series takes place for the most part, you can watch Black Doves season 2 starting at 8 a.m. GMT.
There are only six episodes in Black Doves season 2, just like the first season, so you can definitely binge-watch the new season very quickly. I will be surprised if it takes fans through the weekend. With how fast-paced the first season was, I have a feeling we're in for quite a treat with the new season.
Of course, if you're not tuning in as soon as the episodes are released, especially if you live in the UK, since fans will be able to start watching as early as Thursday morning.

Black Doves season 2 cast features a lot key returning players and some new faces
There are a lot of season 1 stars returning to the cast for Black Doves season 2. Obviously, we all know Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw will be back as Helen Webb and Sam Young. Sarah Lancashire also returns as Reed. Those are basically the three leads of the series.
Of course, we can't have a season of Black Doves without the absolute scene-stealers, Ella Lily Hyland, who plays Williams, and Gabrielle Creevy, who plays Eleanor. Rounding out the rest of the returnees, we have Andrew Buchan, who stars as Helen's husband, Wallace Webb; Agnes O’Casey, who plays Dani; Molly Chesworth, who plays Marie; and Kathryn Hunter, who plays Lenny Lines.
Then, we have some new cast members playing some important characters in the new season. Neve Campbell, Ambika Mod, Sam Riley, Babou Ceesay, Sylvia Hoeks, Samuel Barnett, and Goran Kostic will appear in Black Doves season 2.
We don't know exactly how these newcomers will affect the new season, but Tudum gave us some hints. Of the new characters, the three to watch are Mod, Ceesay, and Riley.
According to Netflix, Mod will be playing Laila, another one of the Black Doves who is "sent to help Helen on a mission." If there's a villain this season, it probably will be Ceesay. Netflix describes his character, Mr. Conteh, as a "Black Doves executive with suspicious motives." And, finally, Riley stars as "Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organization who offers Sam a lifeline."
What's next in Black Doves season 2?
Everything worked out as it was supposed to in Black Doves season 1 with a lot of serious mishaps and murders along the way. This time around, there's less of a mystery to solve for Helen in season 2, and more of an interconnected web of lies, secrets, and uncertainty.
Here's the synopsis for Black Doves season 2, via Netflix:
"Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever. As Helen’s enigmatic handler Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves."
That's a banger of a synopsis! It tells us what has changed since the first season and where this season begins. Helen is still part of the Black Doves after the explosive season 1 finale. A year later, Wallace is set to become the new Prime Minister, which will definitely complicate Helen's position within the organization and her marriage.
Additionally, we're going to get a reunion between Sam and Helen, which is always welcome. I love those two together, and it's a shame they had to spend so much time apart in the first season.
Beyond that, there's turmoil sweeping through the Black Doves as Reed is targeted. How will Helen and Sam navigate this tricky situation? We'll find out in season 2!
Don't miss the premiere of Black Doves season 2 on Nov. 5 and carve out some time late next week to watch the new season on Netflix!
