Netflix's breakout hit crime comedy Big Mistakes is preparing for its big return and finally has an exciting update for fans. Following the show's successful premiere in April 2026, the streaming service quickly announced the season 2 renewal the next month. On top of Netflix renewing the series, the streamer also renewed its deal with creator and star Dan Levy.
It's all coming up Big Mistakes, and there's even more good news for fans to celebrate. The comedy was expected to begin filming its follow-up season in August 2026, and that's exactly what happened. Levy announced that the second season was officially in production with a post on Instagram. He shared a photo with the cast from the table read, though one particular member was missing.

As eagle-eyed fans might have noticed that Jack Innanen wasn't included in the photo shared by Levy, but don't worry. The fan-favorite actor will be in Big Mistakes season 2. Levy quickly shared another photo to his Instagram Stories of the cast on set, which provided a "Jack Innanen proof of life" for fans who might have been concerned. Max is definitely back in season 2!

Big Mistakes season 2, on top of promotional responsibilities for Adults season 2, was of course the reason Innanen couldn't take on a role in Heated Rivalry season 2. The actor had been a fan pick for a major role in the hockey romance's second season, and Innanen was even in discussions for a role, but because of the conflicts with his schedule, he wasn't able to join the hit series.
In addition to Innanen being back in the Big Mistakes season 2 cast, the comedy series also upped Elizabeth Perkins, who plays his character's mother and the secret crime boss pulling the strings, to a series regular. The main cast also includes Levy, Taylor Ortega, Abby Quinn, Laurie Metcalf, and Boran Kuzum. Lorenzo de Moor and Poorna Jagannathan were also added in recurring roles.
Despite Big Mistakes having something of a lukewarm viewership debut this spring, the crime comedy earned critical acclaim and quickly became a cult favorite. Thanks to the show's inimitable combination of larger than life situations and incredible comedic performances, there's no mistaking the series as a dark horse with a lot of potential moving forward.
The first season's finale completely shifted the stakes for siblings Nicky and Morgan, who accidentally found themselves trapped in a life of crime. Although they attempted to free themselves from this world, their situation became even more intense when Annette's role as the leader of the mess they have been entangled in reveals itself as an inescapable web.
Big Mistakes season 2 will continue to film through the fall months and likely wrap up production before the end of the year. But don't expect Netflix to release the new episodes in 2026. After post-production begins and is eventually completed, we likely won't see the new episodes arrive much before summer 2027, though that's merely an early prediction. Stay tuned for more updates!
