Aside from the action, mystery, and thriller Netflix shows and movies that we're constantly enamored with each month, the streaming service also offers plenty of great shows and movies that are perfect for the whole family. Whether it's original content directly from the streamer itself or some of the latest hits from the big-screen, family movie nights are always sorted on Netflix.

Right now, the Netflix Top 10 most popular movies ranking contains two animated movies that kids and families are currently loving. The basketball comedy Goat and the feel-good adventure Swapped might be on heavy rotation in your house at the moment. But in June 2026, Netflix will be adding another animated movie from the big screen that will bring the family together.

David animated movie coming to Netflix in June 2026

In December 2025, the animated biblical musical David hit theaters and defied expectations with its bob office gross and earned positive marks from critics. The movie comes home on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 when it begins streaming on Netflix in the United States. While there aren't release dates for international regions just yet, the film's expected to drop on Netflix in more territories.

Based on the story of David from the Book of Samuel in the Old Testament, David continues the story that began in the miniseries Young David and finds David going on a journey that proves his power. The movie features the voices of Phil Wickham, Brandon Engman, Asim Chaudhry, Miri Mesika, Mick Wingert, Will de Renzy-Martin, Lauren Daigle, and Mark Jacobson.

When David premiered in December 2025, the movie managed to break the record for the biggest opening weekend for a faith-based, biblical animated movie, bringing in $22 million in its debut. The movie overtook fellow Angel Studios release The King of Kings, which opened with just shy of $20 million. All told, David earned $87.5 million and also gained mostly positive reviews from critics with a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Some criticized the heavy-handed messaging but applauded the animation.

David comes from the same studio that produces the popular live-action biblical series The Chosen, which was previously available to stream on Netflix but now on Prime Video. Angel Studios recently released the animated of George Orwell's Animal Farm, which was directed by Andy Serkis and featured the voices of Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Glenn Close, and more stars.

June's shaping up to be a big month for Netflix new releases, between the upcoming original series and movies headed for our watch lists and the exciting acquisitions coming our way, which includes Song Sung Blue, Shrill, Resident Alien, and many more. Last year's biblical blockbuster helps kick off June 2026 with an exciting family movie night!
