One should have had a feeling that Netflix and Beyoncé were getting ready to do something together after her halftime performance on Christmas Day during the Houston Texans versus Baltimore Ravens game was streamed by Netflix. Things went perfectly, and the streamer made Queen Bey's halftime show a stand-alone stream on its own.
For the performer, she was set to announce her tour dates in support of her eighth album, Cowboy Carter, in January, but she delayed the announcement due to the Los Angeles fires. Releasing when she would appear in concert somewhere would have seemed far too joyous at a time when thousands were suffering. She made the right move.
To begin February, though, fans got news that Beyoncé and Netflix would be partnering on her new tour. But what that means exactly? We do not really know. We also do not yet the dates or cities for the concerts. Does this mean Netflix will be live-streaming some of the shows or making a documentary of the tour?
Questions abound about Netflix and Beyoncé partnership
Both things could be true. What also appears to be true is that Netflix was even more excited about the news than Beyoncé was. The streamer made the partnership public on social media before the singer did. Only after Netflix teased several clues did the performer follow suit.
But talk about cryptic. Part of Netflix's posts was this gem:
Yeah, we did that already. We have all watched the "Beyoncé Bowl." Probably more than once. So, we have seen the horse she rode in on. We then received the following.
That only caused more questions. Did whoever was controlling Netflix's social media feed simply know everyone else was asleep and they wanted to make sure the world knew they were a Queen Bey fan? If so, they did a good job.
Beyoncé followed suit with the tweet above, but that does not answer any questions about the partnership with Netflix, only that Netflix is probably going to pay for a big portion of it. The streamer will have a plan for how to earn that money back, though.
Maybe we will get more information at the Grammy Awards that take place on Sunday, February 2. The Queen has been nominated for several awards. Maybe she will win (at least) one and when she makes her acceptance speech, she will explain things a bit further. One can hope anyway.
