3. Mad Men

Release Year: 2007

Creator: Matthew Weiner

Starring: Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Jon Slattery, Vincent Kartheiser

Mad Men came to an end after seven seasons in May after watching the life of Don Draper (Hamm) inside the world of advertising in New York. The show takes us inside the Sterling Cooper ad agency where Draper is the company’s top ad man but has a mysterious past that he’s trying to run from.

The viewer is taken on an odyssey through one of the most culturally significant decades with Draper as our navigator. He seemingly has the perfect life with a beautiful wife Berry (Jones) and a young son and daughter, but that’ not enough for Draper who takes us from New York to California and back again as his past slowly comes to catch up with his present.

Draper is the key cog of the show but Peggy Olson (Moss) and Joan Harris (Hendricks) portrayal as two career-driven women in an era when that was uncommon, if not discouraged, in a male-dominated industry are two characters you can’t help root for.

From the wardrobes to the writing to the flashback scenes there is something for everyone to like about Mad Men. The second half of the final season has yet to be released to Netflix, but if you start watching the series now, it should be there by the time you get caught up with the 15-time Emmy winner.
