House of Cards helped launch Netflix into the giant it is today when the show adapted from the UK series of the same title was brought to the streaming service. We’ve all seen political dramas on the small and big screen but those tend to focus on the President or the Vice President (Veep) but few have made it with a South Carolina Congressman at the center.

Frank Underwood (Spacey) also serves as the Minority Whip but he’s ruthless (as we see in the opening scene in the pilot) and will do whatever is necessary to get what he wants. The same goes for his wife Claire (Wright) who is every bit as persuasive, err conniving, as her husband Frank.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a political drama without people playing in the mud and Frank qualifies as one who’s not afraid to get dirty as he and a young journalist Zoey Barnes (Mara) embark on a complex relationship that could take make or break both of their careers.
