38. Stephen King’s Children of the Corn
Release Year:1984
Director: Fritz Kiersch
Starring: Peter Horton, Linda Hamilton, R.G. Armstrong
When a struggling couple tries to save their marriage with a cross-country road trip to California; they end up fighting for much more than their marriage. Stephen King’s corn field inspired horror film was groundbreaking.
The couple is in the middle of nowhere Nebraska when they run over the body of a boy on the road. Knowing they have to contact the police, the couple puts the body in the trunk and drives to a nearby small town Gatlin. What they discover in the small town is a community run by children who exterminate any adults they come across.
Children of the Corn is a true cult horror film and inspired a franchise after the original release. Between the basic idea of a no adult community and sacrifices of adults and children to an evil deity, this movie is extremely startling. Anyone who has seen this movie will never forget the leader Isaac and his henchman Malachi, two kids you’d never want to cross paths with.
