The Night Agent just returned for season 3 on Netflix on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026. This time around, Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, continues his work as a Night Agent, which leads him on a mission to Turkey to locate and secure an asset with ties to a terrorist attack.
If that sounds familiar, that's because it is! Peter always finds himself right in the middle of conspiracy, corruption, and terrorism that leads to the highest levels of the US government. Unfortunately, Peter was without his partner in stopping crime, Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan.
I've been covering The Night Agent since the first season premiered on Netflix on March 23, 2023. With three seasons available on Netflix, I ranked all three seasons from weakest to strongest.
Let's get the list started with the first season of the series, which is unfortunately the weakest of the three.

3. The Night Agent season 1
The Night Agent stormed on the scene with an incredible first season back in the spring of 2023. The series basically came out of nowhere, and at the time, rocketed up to a spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10 TV list. It still sits at No. 10 on the list, but that list doesn't include Bridgerton season 4 yet, which will probably bump The Night Agent season 1 out of that spot.
What I liked: Overall, I liked the first season of The Night Agent, so please, don't think that me ranking it as the weakest season is a huge slight. The second and third seasons are just a little bit better as a cohesive narrative. Still, there are many bright spots in the show's first season.
The show has a great premise. I like how Peter and Rose are thrust into the action and have to work together to get to the bottom of a conspiracy and stop an attack, while also evading assassins. It's easy to watch this action thriller. There's so much drama, and I love that you don't know, for most of the season, just who the big bad is. There's a whodunnit layer that's really fun that gets lost in the second and third seasons.
What I didn't like: Even with all of the drama, the plot borders on ridiculous at times. Maybe that's just a me thing, but there's so much going on in the first season. Eventually, it all comes together, but I would argue it's not totally necessary. The show fixed this issue in later seasons.
The overstuffed plot and large cast led to some pacing issues. This show is at its best during its action sequences mixed in with the little breaks for the characters to find new information, take stock of how they're feeling, and have the important conversations.

2. The Night Agent season 2
This might be an unpopular opinion, but The Night Agent season 2 is definitely a step up from the first season. There are some wrinkles that needed to be worked out, but the show really changed and shifted for the better by allowing Peter to embrace who he wants to be and giving him a much bigger role as a spy in season 2.Â
What I liked: There’s a lot to like about The Night Agent season 2. I enjoyed the story and how it went haywire from the jump, which led Peter underground to figure out what really happened with a compromised Night Action. We all know that led the central conflict between Peter and Jacob Monroe, who needed Peter's services in his criminal intelligence-gathering operation.
I liked the introduction of Monroe as a big bad and how it carried over into the third season with ties to the US presidential election with Governor Hagan. I also really liked the storyline revolving around the Iranian delegation in New York City, including Noor (Arienne Mandi).
What I didn’t like: I love that Rose came back for season 2, but I didn’t love how she was utilized at times with the whole will they won’t they story. It just felt a little too tedious at times, but I understand why they chose to highlight their situation. They obviously have feelings for each other, but they also ambition. At the end of the day, they want to keep each other safe, but Peter can’t do that as a spy and Rose can’t do that not as a spy. So, there’s obvious conflict there. It’ll be interesting to see where that goes.Â
Along with that, I absolutely hated that they killed off Brittany Snow after like 10 minutes of screen time. She’s great, and she deserved more time!

1. The Night Agent season 3Â
Call it recency bias if you want, but The Night Agent season 3 feels like the best season of the show so far. It’s not perfect, and I don’t know if the 10-episode arc is totally necessary because there are some slow moments. Still, the show is an improvement from season 2, which was an improvement over the first season.Â
What I liked: The Night Agent season 3 boasts an ensemble of new and returning characters surrounding Basso’s Peter. Every major character has a clear purpose and adds to the story in some way, shape, or form, and I don’t know if you can say that about the first two seasons.Â
Overall, season 3 is the most entertaining season so far. There are so many key moments, great action sequences, and plot twists in this season. I appreciated how all the storylines come together and force characters to make decisions. It’s not like these things are happening at random. The character development connects dots. They were not shy about killing off major characters this season, as well, which opens things up for the future.
What I didn’t like: While I enjoyed seeing Peter work together with other characters like Isabel, Jay, and Adam at times, I felt like Rose’s absence was felt this season. I understand why the show moved away from Rose and Peter’s relationship and partnership, but it felt different without Luciane Buchanan leading the way.Â
Also, I wish we could lose all the flashbacks. I know that's the calling card of the show, but I don't think we needed them all this season.
So far, things are looking good for The Night Agent season 4! Netflix hasn't officially renewed the series yet, but it could be happening very soon.
