6 things to remember before Outer Banks season 5

Outer Banks is finally back for one last adventure with the Pogues!

Outer Banks season 5 arrives on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 20. All 10 episodes of the final season will be available to stream as soon as the season drops. After making fans wait for almost two years between seasons, Netflix is not holding back episodes and doing a split release for the final season.

Because of that long wait, I'm sure there are a few Pogues and Kooks out there who need a little refresher about what happened in season 4. I shared the six most important things you need to remember before watching Outer Banks season 5.

JJ is dead

I don't know how you could watch Outer Banks season 4 and not remember the most important thing that happened during the season.

After the Pogues make it all the way to Morocco and find the Blue Crown, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) steals the artifact from JJ (Rudy Pankow) and stabs his son. JJ bleeds out and dies in Kiara's arms in the Moroccan desert.

Obviously, JJ's death is going to shape the entire season. Everyone, including John B, Sarah, Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Kiara, Cleo (Carlacia Grant), and even Rafe (Drew Starkey) in the series, was affected by JJ's death, and it's probably going to be the rallying cry for the Pogues this season as they try to get the Blue Crown back from Groff.

In the trailer, there were some hints that the Blue Crown might also be able to bring back the dead. Is this really the last we've seen of JJ? We'll find out!

Chandler Groff has the Blue Crown

So, we just chatted about Groff taking the Blue Crown. When season 4 ends, Groff has the Blue Crown, and it appears that is going to be true when season 5 begins.

Now, it's all about what Groff plans to do with the Blue Crown. The fourth season was always about finding it, but there are the allegations that the artifact has mystical or even magical powers. Is Groff going to use the Blue Crown? Is he going to sell it and cash out? We'll have to wait and see.

Obviously, if Groff just immediately sells the Blue Crown and disappears, that's not very much fun. We know his character is going to be central to the story. And if Kiara and the Pogues get their revenge, and I think they need to, Groff has to be a big part of this story.

The Corsairs are still out there, too

Groff can't and won't be the only villain the Pogues will face in Outer Banks season 5. Remember, the Corsairs were the biggest adversaries in season 4 until Groff entered the mix later in the season.

For those who don't remember, the Corsairs are a group of mercenaries who are very into treasure hunting. We don't know how much they will be involved in season 5, but they were the third group who was in Morocco. The Pogues definitely ruined their plans to get the Blue Crown and even killed some of the Corsairs, I think, during the battle.

I'm sure they will want revenge. I also have some suspicions about some of the Corsairs and their connections to Ward Cameron, Big John Routledge, and some of the other characters in this story. Nothing has been revealed yet, but I would not be surprised if there is a more personal connection to the Pogues.

Sarah Cameron is pregnant

One of the big revelations of Outer Banks season 4 was that Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) is pregnant. The Pogues' first couple is having a baby! That's definitely a key thing to remember for the season. It adds a little bit more pressure to John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah's journey, and it could have big ramifications for where this story goes in the new season.

We don't know how much time has passed between the end of Outer Banks season 4 and the beginning of season 5. I would assume that we won't have a huge time jump because that would mean that Sarah is much further along with the pregnancy or that she even had the baby.

I can definitely picture a time jump at the end of the season, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

The Kooks are trying to take over Kildare Island

This is probably the most deep-cut thing that Outer Banks fans need to remember heading into season 5.

In season 4, Dale, the real estate developer who makes the Pogues' life a living hell, is trying to basically gentrify the island, buy all the properties in the Cut, kick all the Pogues out, and build luxury real estate.

It looks like that plan is already happening based on the trailer. We see a bulldozer tearing down the property that the Pogues bought and built in season 4. We knew they were getting pushed out, but I thought they would have found a way to keep JJ's home. It appears that is not actually the case heading into the fifth season.

With Groff, the Corsairs, and the Kooks as their enemies, John B and the gang have their work cut out for them in season 5, but this story is not over yet.

Topper still sucks

I just want everyone, and I mean everyone, to know and remember that Topper (Austin North) still sucks in Outer Banks season 5. I haven't seen the season yet, but I just know, deep down in my bones, that Topper, wherever he is and wherever he will be, sucks. And his girlfriend Ruthie (Mia Challis)? She sucks, too.

Topper has always sucked in Outer Banks. He's done and gotten away with horrible things. Sure, he's had moments where he has helped Sarah and the Pogues, but it's not nearly enough to make up for literally burning down John B's house and everything else that's happened since then.

Hopefully, Outer Banks season 5 will be the time Toppper finally gets a dose of what he's been dishing out for four seasons.

Those are the key things you need to remember heading into the final season of Outer Banks! It's going to be a wild ride, so buckle up and stay off social media if you aren't going to be watching at midnight with the rest of Outer Banks fans. I'm sure it will be spoiled about 8-10 hours later on social media.
