4 romantic Netflix shows to watch while you wait for Ransom Canyon season 2

The wait for Ransom Canyon season 2 has felt much longer than it's actually been, and there's still a little bit longer to go until the new episodes arrive. Following the show's April 2025 premiere and eventual season 2 renewal, Netflix finally gave fans a release date for the romantic drama's highly anticipated return this summer.

Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly will be back on our watch lists as Staten Kirkland and Quinn O'Grady in Ransom Canyon season 2 on July 23. See? That's only a little more than a year of waiting between seasons, but the follow-up season is more than worth the wait. Quinn's return to town after a half a year away in New York reignites the sparks between her and Staten all over again.

But if you simply can't stand waiting until Ransom Canyon season 2 for all of the buzzy romantic feels between Quinn and Staten and all of the show's other couples, there are lots of great romantic Netflix shows to binge-watch until July. Virgin River (2019-present)

There's something about small towns, and Ransom Canyon and Virgin River aren't the only ones featured on this list. But if you watched and loved Ransom Canyon but you somehow haven't seen every season of Netflix's romantic drama sensation Virgin River, that's something you should fix during the wait for the Western's second season.

Virgin River takes place in the titular coastal Northern California town, which is a closeknit community full of colorful characters with big feelings and even bigger secrets. While there are mysteries and crime subplots in each season, the series features some of the coziest and most angst-filled love stories you will ever watch on the small screen.

The great part about Virgin River, especially if you haven't taken the plunge yet, is that there are seven seasons waiting for you right now on Netflix. Even better, Virgin River season 8 is now in production and will be released sometime in 2027. Mel and Jack will have you hooked, but the full ensemble will keep you pressing "next episode" with their various dramas.

Sweet Magnolias (2020-present)

From one small town to another, your Netflix watch list should also take the trip to Serenity, South Carolina to hang out with the Sweet Magnolias. While the series centers itself on the friendship between Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue, Sweet Magnolias also delves into the often messy romantic lives of all three of the lifelong friends.

Between Ransom Canyon, Virgin River, and Sweet Magnolias (which really are the Top 3 Netflix original romantic drama series, possibly of all time), you can travel all over the map to navigate different love stories across the country. Like the other two series, Sweet Magnolias also features generation-spanning storytelling with teen stories also explored each season.

Again, Sweet Magnolias also boasts multiple seasons to binge-watch at once. If you haven't started your journey with the series, there are four seasons already available to watch right now, and the fifth season makes its premiere on June 11, one month before Ransom Canyon season 2 arrives. Partner Track (2022)

Maybe you're looking for something a little less obvious to add to your watch list while you wait for Ransom Canyon's return. Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias are two of Netflix's most popular shows, so anyone who would watch them probably already has. But there are so many hidden gems from years past tucked away on the streaming service waiting to be rediscovered.

Partner Track, which debuted back in August 2022 on Netflix, has been begging to be rediscovered by a new audience since its cancellation after one season. Just like Ransom Canyon and all of the recommended romantic series on this list, Partner Track is based on a book. Adapting Helen Wan's novel of the same title, the series follows a young lawyer looking for career success and love.

Arden Cho stars as the leading character Ingrid Yun, a Korean-American lawyer with the goal of becoming the first woman of color to land the coveted partner title at her firm. But that's easier said than done in her male-dominated field, especially when there's a competition from two handsome fellow lawyers. Even though the show ends on a cliffhanger, it's still a worthy addition to your list!

My Life with the Walter Boys (2023-present)

Last but certainly not least, the perfect romantic drama marathon wouldn't be complete without a teen drama on the menu. My Life with the Walter Boys presents the perfect mixture of the more mature Netflix shows on this list with love triangles, a picturesque setting, and lots and lots of yearning. Did we mention there are love triangles?

If you're a younger fan of Ransom Canyon, then you have definitely tuned into My Life with the Walter Boys. But in case you're among the uninitiated, the series centers on a teenage girl who lost her family in a car accident and moves across the country from New York City to live with family friends in Colorado. Before long, she's caught between two of the titular Walter boys.

My Life with the Walter Boys has two seasons already under its belt that are available to stream on Netflix right now. In addition, the show was renewed for a third season, which has completed filming and is confirmed to release before the end of 2026. No matter if you're watching for the first time to bide your time until Ransom Canyon or rewatching before season 3, you can't go wrong!
