5 best new Netflix movies to watch (and 3 to skip) in November 2024
By Reed Gaudens
For a lot of people, November begins the greatest time of the year with the holiday season officially on the way post-Halloween. When it comes to Netflix movies, it's definitely the greatest time of year in November.
There are so many good new Netflix movies coming throughout the month of November that it's hard to pick what to watch and what to skip when they're all so intriguing.
But with so little time around the busy holiday rush, you can't watch everything. Should you watch the Christmas romantic comedies and skip the award season dramas... or the other way around?
To make your movie night decision making a little bit easier for the coming month, we're giving a rundown of eight excellent Netflix movies coming this month and suggesting which are most worth the watch!
Meet Me Next Christmas
Watch! A trend you'll soon notice on this list, I'm not going to turn anyone away from Netflix's new batch of Christmas rom-coms. They're just too fun! You have to lean into the cheesy, predictable romance, which has turned into the reason for the season (movie-wise, at least). Christina Milian stars in Meet Me Next Christmas as a woman chasing true love and Pentatonix tickets. Music, love, and merriment... What more could you ask for? Watch the holiday kickoff on Nov. 6.
Pedro Páramo
Skip! The Lincoln Lawyer star Manuel García-Rulfo stars in the titular role of Netflix's new movie Pedro Páramo, making its premiere on Nov. 6. Based on the novel by Juan Rulfo and directed by Rodrigo Prieto, the film centers on the thin line between the past and the present as a Mexican ghost town becomes the backdrop of a personal family history. The movie is certainly a must-watch, though if the magical realism genre isn't for you, go ahead and give it a pass.
Emilia Pérez
Watch! Netflix has been receiving a ton of Oscar buzz this year for its upcoming film Emilia Pérez, which stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Édgar Ramírez. The musical crime comedy was a big winner at the Cannes Film Festival and has been predicted to receive a number of Academy Award nominations. Even if you don't think it's your kind of movie, it's worth checking out for the performances alone when it begins streaming on Netflix on Nov. 13.
Hot Frosty
Watch! For a lot of people Hot Frosty will be a skip. I mean, it's a romantic comedy about a woman falling in love with a snowman come to life. That's not exactly the kind of logline that has most people rushing to press play. But with this particular movie, it should be. Lacey Chabert leads an excellent cast that includes Dustin Milligan, Katy Mixon, Lauren Holly, Joe Lo Truglio, Craig Robinson, and Chrishell Stause. It's the true seasonal escapism we all crave and it arrives on Nov. 13.
The Merry Gentlemen
Watch! Who says Christmas movies can't be sexy? Ever since the first images from The Merry Gentlemen dropped (see above), a lot of us have been simply feral and counting down the days until this movie arrives. Chad Michael Murray channeling Magic Mike? Consider us all sat! The movie also stars Britt Robertson as a woman trying to save her family's small town theater with a little holiday sex appeal. Tune into the raucous Christmas romp beginning on Nov. 20.
Spellbound
Watch! So far on this list, there hasn't been much by way of family friendly movies, but Spellbound is exactly the ticket for all of your family movie night needs during winter break. The animated musical adventure comedy centers on a girl trying to save her kingdom and parents and features the voices of Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Tituss Burgess, Nathan Lane, Javier Bardem, and Nicole Kidman. The magical festivities begin on Nov. 22!
The Piano Lesson
Skip! Once again, the case of a movie being a "skip" is only based on personal preference, because when it comes to quality, The Piano Lesson isn't really skip material. The film comes from director Malcolm Washington (Denzel's son!) and bases its story on the play of the same name by August Wilson. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Danielle Deadwyler, and more. However, skip if you're not a fan of period dramas.
Our Little Secret
Watch! Netflix saved the best new Christmas romantic comedy for last. Lindsay Lohan's back on Netflix for the second time this year, following spring's hit rom-com Irish Wish. This time, in Our Little Secret, she's unexpectedly romancing the brother of her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend, and that makes for an awkward Christmas vacation! Ian Harding, Kristin Chenoweth, and Tim Meadows also star in the hilarious holiday romantic comedy, which premieres one day before Thanksgiving.
