Black Doves is officially back on Thursday, Nov. 5, almost two full years after the first season premiered on Netflix during 2024's holiday season. While Black Doves season 2 isn't set at Christmas like the first season, there are some important things from season 1 that fans will need to remember heading into season 2.
I'm not a huge fan of waiting this long between seasons of a short spy series like Black Doves. It would have been so awesome if Netflix could get this show on a 12-month release schedule like The Diplomat and some of its other thrillers. With the star power of this cast and the potential for this to be a one-season show, it makes sense why we had a long wait, but now, we have to all remember what exactly went down in the season 1 finale and what it means for season 2.
That's where we come in! Let's take a look at three things fans need to remember before watching Black Doves season 2.

Helen Webb is still one of the Black Doves
Throughout the season, Helen (Keira Knightley) was hellbent on finding out who killed her lover, Jason (Andrew Koji), who ended up being an MI5 agent who was investigating Helen. Well, it turns out that he was a real one because, as Reed mentions in the finale, Jason knew about Helen's activities, but he kept them out of his official report. His secret, hopefully, died with him.
Because her cover wasn't blown, Helen is able to continue with the Black Doves, which also means that she gets to keep her life and stay with her family. Had her cover actually been blown, that probably would have meant that she was going to be killed, jailed, or would be on the run in season 2.
Instead, she has a much more important role in her family, as well as for the country.

Wallace Webb becomes Prime Minister
Helen's husband, Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan), is officially moving up in the world at the end of Black Doves season 1. After spending the first season in the powerful position of defense secretary, Wallace learns at the end of season 1 that he's going to be the Prime Minister.
Based on the synopsis for the new season, Wallace is the acting Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, which means that Helen, as his wife, will be spying on the active Prime Minister. That's wild!
I assume that will bring quite the spotlight on her as the season begins. How does the wife of the Prime Minister sneak out in the middle of the night to investigate mysteries and kill people? We'll have to find out.

Sam starts working as a hitman after breaking up with Michael
Remember, in the finale of Black Doves season 1, Sam (Ben Whishaw) helps save the day, but then he gets a job offer from Hector (Luther Ford), the kid who is now running a criminal organization. Sam breaks up with Michael to keep him safe, and then he heads back to work killing small-time criminals.
It's a bit of a sad reality for Sam, who seems so much better off outside of this line of work, but it looks like he'll be working more closely with Helen in the new season. Does that mean he's working for the Black Doves? Does it mean that Helen is working against the Black Doves? There are a lot of big question marks right now about Sam's role coming out of season 1.

Helen and Sam pissed off some very powerful people in season 1
At the end of the first season, Helen and Sam took out Alex and Trent Clark, who are connected to a very powerful organization. After everything goes sideways and Alex and Trent are killed, Sam and Helen receive a phone call from a mysterious person, who claims there will be payback coming for what they did.
We don't know what that means heading into the season. It seems very possible that the same people trying to take down Reed (Sarah Lancashire) in season 2, which is what was revealed in the synopsis, could be the ones who Helen and Sam pissed off way back in the first season.
Instead of solving a mystery involving her lover in the new season, it seems like Helen might be trying to save her boss in the new season.
Those are the four things fans need to remember from Black Doves season 1 heading into season 2. Remember, the new season premieres on Netflix on Thursday, Nov. 5!
