Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things officially came to an end on Dec. 31, 2025. For the first time in a full decade, there's no future season of Stranger Things for fans to look forward to, but that doesn't mean there aren't new Netflix shows from the Duffer brothers coming in 2026.
In fact, there are three new Netflix shows connected to the Duffer brothers coming this year, and Netflix just announced the release dates for two of those, including the upcoming Stranger Things spinoff.
Unlike Stranger Things, these shows are not "created by" the Duffer brothers. Instead, the Duffers are executive producers on all three projects. Let's get the list started with the first of the show we'll see in March 2026.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen
- Release date: March 26, 2026
- Created by Haley Z. Boston
- Cast: Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, and Jeff Wilbusch
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is the first of the Duffers' shows to arrive on Netflix, and we don't have to wait long. The horror series from Haley Z. Boston premieres on Thursday, March 26.
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen tells the story of Rachel, played by Camila Morrone, and Nicky, played by Adam DiMarco, who are preparing to get married in one week when tragedy strikes. Morrone just starred in The Night Manager season 2, and she was fantastic. Of course, Netflix fans are a little more comfortable with DiMarco, who starred in the supernatural series, The Order, years ago before a solid role in The White Lotus season 2.
I have a feeling that something very good is going to happen that month on Netflix, because it feels like this show will be a smash hit. I can't wait for fans to see it!
Stranger Things: Tales from '85
- Release date: April 23, 2026
- Created by Eric Robles
- Cast: Brett Gipson, Luca Diaz, Brooklyn Davey Norstedt, Braxton Quinney, Elisha Williams, Benjamin Plessala, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Jeremy Jordan, Lou Diamond Phillips, Janeane Garofalo, and Odessa A'zion
While we all said goodbye to Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, and the rest of the Stranger Things live-action stars recently, we only had to say see you later to these characters for a short time. That's because the first Stranger Things spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, is coming to Netflix this spring.
Stranger Things: Tales from '85 tells the story of Mike, Eleven, Will, Lucas, Dustin, Max, and the rest of these characters between the events of season 2 and season 3. Remember, Eleven closes the gate at the end of season 2, but it looks like there were other adventures left to be had before the Starcourt Mall opens in the summer of '85.
Netflix shared the first look teaser at Stranger Things: Tales from '85 recently, and it looks fantastic. I don't know what I was expecting when this project was announced, but the trailer definitely looks outstanding.
I know some fans aren't exactly stoked about this project, but I'm more than onboard. The way I see it, the Duffer brothers created such incredible characters, and that's the beauty of Stranger Things. The stories of those characters deserve to be told in other mediums, like animated shows, books, comics, video games, and more.

The Boroughs
- Release date: TBD
- Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews
- Cast: Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Jena Malone, and Carlos Miranda
Last but certainly not least, we have The Boroughs, a new supernatural mystery series produced by the Duffers, coming sometime in 2026. Netflix has not announced the release date for The Boroughs yet, but based on production listings, production likely wrapped about a year ago, so it could be ready to go at any time this year.
The series tells the story of the residents of a retirement community who must join forces to stop a monster of sorts. The Boroughs also has an absolutely dynamite cast.
Based on who is involved with the project and the description of the series, there's a good chance The Boroughs is one of the shows we're discussing as the best Netflix show of 2026 when the year's over.
For me, it's so hard to choose the show of these three that I'm most excited to watch. I feel like Boston's created something awesome in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and it's going to be a sneaky hit on Netflix this spring. The Boroughs, though, should have all the hype heading into its release because it just feels like Stranger Things for older people, and that's super exciting, as well.
We'll share more news about these three upcoming Netflix shows when we find out. Stay tuned!
