It's been quite a big year for the Duffer Brothers already, as the pair had the whole world talking about the Stranger Things series finale on the very first day of 2026. Everyone felt some kind of way about the monumental ending, whether positive or negative, but that was quite the way to usher in a new year. However, the Duffers aren't done entertaining us this year yet!
Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed that two new live-action shows from the Duffer Brothers would be released in 2026, on top of the animated Stranger Things spinoff Tales from '85. If you're missing Hawkins pretty bad right now, you're going to get a brand-new story to dive into. While the Duffers' new shows aren't related to Stranger Things, they're sure going to scratch that itch.

According to Boston, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen keeps the promise of its title, but we might not know exactly what the "very bad" thing that's going to happen will be right away. The series takes place leading up to a couple's wedding, where the threat of something going incredibly awry looms large. Each episode will have the viewers on the edge of their seats waiting and wondering.
"Something bad happens in every show, right? We need the conflict, but the special thing about this show, and what I think the title offers, is we're gonna keep you guessing on what the very bad thing is," Boston shared to Entertainment Weekly about the title's tease for what's to come in the limited series.
The creator also revealed her varied inspirations for the series, including looking back at classic horror titles like Carrie and Rosemary's Baby. Both films tracks the horrific side of a girl becoming a woman and a woman becoming a mother. Boston wanted to examine a woman becoming a wife but a add a horror tilt. Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen will do just that.

"As I was approaching the age of 30 and everyone's getting married, it just felt so natural to me that you would explore the fear of commitment and the fear of marrying the wrong person through a horror lens," Boston further explained about the show's inspiration.
Netflix hasn't yet shared any footage from the forthcoming limited series, but in the weeks leading up to the release in March, the streamer will surely share a teaser and full official trailer. Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen contains eight episodes and stars Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Sawyer Fraser.
In addition to Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the Duffer Brothers will also release their next Netflix show The Boroughs later this year. Once again, they were involved in the upcoming sci-fi series as producers, but it's another show that Stranger Things fans will definitely want to tune into. Stay tuned for more news and updates regarding both shows!
