It seems Netflix is starting to clean house before the year comes to a close. With 2025 quickly racing towards the finish line, it seems Netflix is looking ahead to 2026 and making some difficult decisions about the futures of several shows.

Last week, Lena Dunham revealed that her romantic comedy Too Much, would not be returning for a second season. In speaking at an FYC panel, Dunham suggested that the plan was for the show to be a limited series, which makes sense given its ending, but Netflix never promoted the series as a limited series. This seems to suggest that perhaps the hope was if the show performed well it could continue, but it proved not to be a breakout hit and now it’s been confirmed that a second season will not be happening.

While Too Much fans might have gotten a planned ending of sorts, this will not be the case for fans of three additional series which have been canceled by Netflix.

Netflix cancels three animated series

After leaving their fates in limbo for months, Netflix has finally decided to pull the plug on three animated series.

According to What’s on Netflix, there will be no second seasons for Exploding Kittens, Twilight of the Gods, and Good Times. All three animated series have been quietly canceled by Netflix, though the news is likely not too surprising for fans given the series all debuted in 2024.

It’s never a good sign when a series sits in limbo for months without any official update, but fans had kept hope alive, given that animated series don’t operate on the same timelines as live-action programs. It seems there was even hope among the creative teams behind the shows, with early development having occurred for both Exploding Kittens and Twilight of the Gods.

Sadly, the trio of shows failed to break through on Netflix and didn’t pull in strong viewership on the platform and failed to generate buzz. While Netflix has surprised us in the past by giving some series the chance to build a following with a second season, it clearly didn’t see enough promise in the performance of the three shows’ first seasons to warrant interest in a second season.

Of the trio, the cancellation of Twilight of the Gods is the most shocking of the group as it hailed from Zack Snyder. Unfortunately, his fans didn't quite show up in strong support of the show and failed to crack the Global Top 10 at any point after its launch.
