Netflix is adding 18 new movies and shows this week (Dec. 3, 2023)

December is officially here, and with it comes a few new movies and shows to Netflix. This includes a few new Netflix movies, a new romance drama series, and a new season of a holiday baking competition show.

First up is The Archies. The new movie is coming to Netflix on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023. As you can probably guess from the name, it follows Archie Andrews and all his friends as they navigate friendship, love, school, and so much more. But instead of being set in the US, this new film is set in 1960s India. You can expect to see Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the gang. Oh, and it’s a musical, so be ready for some singing.

Next up this week is My Life with the Walter Boys. The romantic drama series hits Netflix on Thursday, Dec. 7, and follows Jackie Howard as her life drastically changes. She must move from the city to Colorado where she’ll be living with her guardian and a family of 10 kids.

Jackie must not only deal with losing her family, but she also has to adjust to living in a new place and being surrounded by so many new people. Expect plenty of teen angst and romance here!

Leave the World Behind and The Archies coming to Netflix this week

Since the holiday season is officially here (and the normal season is ending this week), the Great British Baking Show: Holidays is heading to Netflix! You can start watching the sixth season on Friday, Dec. 8. As is tradition, these episodes are from the year before, so the hosts will still be Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas. We won’t see Allison Hammond until next year.

The first episode will feature celebrities from Channel 4 (where GBBO airs in the UK) celebrating the holidays, and the second episode will include bakers from past seasons ringing in the new year.

The biggest film coming out this week is Leave the World Behind. It hits Netflix on Friday, Dec. 8, and stars Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Myha’la Herrold, Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans, and Kevin Bacon.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Rumaan Alam and follows a family as they head on vacation. But everything turns upside down when two strangers show up at their door, and a cyberattack cuts off all communication. The outside world starts to change as does the physical and mental state of everyone involved. But the issues of race become the focus despite the dystopic reality they are now living in.

This week also brings Hilda season 3 on Thursday, Dec. 7, and Top Chef seasons 6 and 15 on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
