Netflix series My Life with the Walter Boys based on the popular Wattpad novel will finally be released on Dec. 7, 2023. On Nov. 8, Netflix officially announced the release date and dropped the exciting trailer that will surely pull viewers in. The Wattpad novel by Ali Novak is a beloved book with almost 80 million reads. It’s also a Goodreads Choice nominee.
The upcoming drama will span 10 episodes and comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Melanie Halsall (Itch). Ed Glauser (The Kissing Booth trilogy) will also serve as an executive producer on the series from iGeneration Studios (The Kissing Booth trilogy) and Sony Pictures Television, International Production.
In the series, a teenager from New York becomes displaced to rural Colorado after an accident takes away her family. Jackie’s dropped into new surroundings with new people, as she’s taken in by her mother’s best friend, who happens to be raising 10 children. Suddenly, Jackie finds herself falling for two of the Walter brothers, who have strikingly differing personalities.
Here’s a closer look at the show’s synopsis via Netflix:
"MY LIFE WITH THE WALTER BOYS is a heartwarming coming of age story that follows fifteen-year-old Manhattanite Jackie Howard after losing her family in a tragic accident. Jackie leaves behind her privileged and proper life in New York and moves to rural Colorado to be with her guardian – her mother’s best friend, Katherine, who is raising ten kids with her husband, George. While settling into her new, chaotic countryside home, Jackie is determined to stay focused on her dream of getting into Princeton…all while wrapping her head around her feelings for two very different Walter brothers: the reliable and bookish Alex, and the mysterious and troubled Cole. As Jackie tries to navigate her new life, the feelings and tensions she tries to deny threaten to throw everything off course. Will she be able to stay true to herself and still find romance?"
The official trailer for My Life with the Walter Boys introduces us to Jackie’s tragic situation regarding her family. She’s removed from everything she knows in Manhattan and thrust into a rural world unlike her own. While the series was initially pitched as “Dawson’s Creek meets Friday Night Lights,” per a Netflix press release, the trailer definitely gives shades of The Summer I Turned Pretty meets Heartland.
Beyond giving insight into Jackie’s culture shock, the trailer also previews her budding relationships with both Alex and Cole, a love triangle that’s sure to be a hot rod for debate, just like Conrad and Jeremiah in Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty. My Life with the Walter Boys cast
Leading the cast as the main character, Nikki Rodriguez portrays Jackie Howard, a 15-year-old who’s determined to stick to her goal of getting into Princeton after high school. Even when she loses her parents and sister and moves in with the Walter family in Colorado, she’s determined to keep working toward her goal. But can she maintain her focus in the midst of grief and a newfound sense of love thanks to Alex and Cole?
Speaking of Alex and Cole, Noah LaLonde plays Cole Walter and Ashby Gentry plays Alex Walter. While Alex enjoys Star Wars and riding horses and generally has a more romantic and reliable personality, Cole’s something of a “bad boy,” with an on-again, off-again relationship with Erin, overwhelmingly popularity, and a former spot as the star player of the football team. Clearly, both of their relationships with Jackie will put these Walter boys at odds.
The Walter parents, Katherine and George, are played by Suits alum Sarah Rafferty and Buffy the Vampire Slayer favorite Marc Blucas. The rest of the extensive cast is filled out by a couple potentially familiar faces and some new faces, too. Here’s everyone who’s in the show’s cast:
- Nikki Rodriguez as Jackie Howard
- Noah LaLonde as Cole Walter
- Ashby Gentry as Alex Walter
- Sarah Rafferty as Dr. Katherine Walter
- Marc Blucas as George Walter
- Connor Stanhope as Danny Walter

- Jaylan Evans as Skylar Summerhill
- Dean Petriw as Jordan Walter

Episode count and titles
The first season of My Life with the Walter Boys contains 10 total episodes, which were filmed in Calgary, Canada, in spite of the Colorado setting of the series. The first two episodes of the season were written by creator and showrunner Melanie Halsall, who also wrote the season finale, and they were directed by Jerry Ciccoritti, who also directs episodes 5 and 6. Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jason Priestley gets back to his teen drama roots by directing the last two episodes of the season.
As teased by the episode 5 title, the series celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday, which will surely be a tough time for Jackie without her family. Netflix shared the story that to further their family bond on and off-screen, the cast broke bread with their own Thanksgiving celebration at Gentry’s house following the completion of the holiday episode. Considering the series comes out in December, hopefully there will also be a Christmas episode before the season ends. We’re also hoping that “Happily Ever After” leaves some room for a potential season 2.
Here are all 10 episode titles for season 1:
- Episode 1: “Welcome to Colorado”
- Episode 2: “Live a Little”
- Episode 3: “The Cole Effect”
- Episode 4: “Nineteen”
- Episode 5: “Thanksgiving”
- Episode 6: “Baggage”
- Episode 7: “Small Town Rumors”
