Sweet Tooth is one of the many Netflix original series to take the streaming service by storm. The fantasy drama premiered on June 4, 2021 and quickly shot to the peak of the Netflix Top 10 ranking. Obviously, fans have connected with the series, as it called the Top 10 home for at least two full weeks after its debut.
Based on the comic book series of the same name by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth takes place 10 years after an event known as “The Great Crumble,” which introduced mysterious human and animal hybrids. Because of the mystery surrounding the hybrids, humans fear and hunt them. A young deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) remained secluded for most of his life, until he teams up with Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) to seek the truth about themselves and the world.
Sweet Tooth comes from executive producer Robert Downey Jr. and was something of an unexpected success on Netflix. By all accounts, it wasn’t one of the most highly anticipated new releases, but the series sure left its mark.
As with any show, Sweet Tooth won’t be a one-size-fits-all viewing experience for everyone. But considering its popularity and critical acclaim, which aren’t always a given double whammy, we would suggest giving Sweet Tooth a chance.
Plus, if you enjoy the show, it’s been renewed for a second season! That’s right. Sweet Tooth season 2 premiered on Netflix on April 27, 2023. Netflix also renewed Sweet Tooth for season 3, and it will be the final season.
