It's still quite early in the year, but we already have one of the best new Netflix originals of 2024 so far. It's none other than the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. It's a live-action adaptation of one of the most beloved Nickelodeon animated series.

The story follows 12-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and last Airbender of his nation, as he embarks on a journey to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, Air) so that he can save the world from the militaristic Fire Nation. Joining him on this quest are his newfound friends, young Waterbender Katara and Water Tribe warrior Sokka. Of course, Aang can expect his journey to be met with obstacles such as the driven and exiled Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko, who is hell-bent on capturing him. But with Katara and Sokka on his side, Aang can continue to press ahead on his quest to save the world and end the Fire Nation's reign.

Some people might not agree with me, but I think this live-action adaptation did the original animated series justice. It didn't venture away too much from the source material, the casting was spot-on with the actors properly capturing the essence of their characters, there were tons of action-packed scenes, etc.

Luckily, we haven't seen the last of Team Avatar because Netflix swiftly renewed the fantasy drama series for not one season, but two! This means we'll be seeing an Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 and 3 in the future. However, the series will be wrapping up its story in the third season. While announcing the renewal, the streaming giant revealed that the third season will be its last. Although this is sad news, it was expected since the original series was only made up of three seasons. We can't wait to see the return of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and all of our other favorite characters. We also can't wait to see who will be playing the new characters that will be introduced next season.
