Netflix hit it way out of the park in 2022 with Heartstopper, a teen romantic comedy-drama with so much heart and cuteness. While we already gave The Lincoln Lawyer the honor of being the best new Netflix show of 2022, we might give the best Netflix show overall to Heartstopper.

Based on the series of graphic novels by Alice Oseman, who also wrote the series adaptation, Heartstopper centers on the coming-of-age stories of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), two polar opposite teens with a growing crush on each other. The series also explores the relatable themes of identity and friendship in adolescence.

Because the books already had so much love and fandom attached to them, Heartstopper premiered on Netflix in April 2022 to overwhelming praise and success, launching its relatively unknown cast into overnight stars. But the series had us all swooning and crying for weeks.

One month after its release, Netflix officially renewed the series for TWO more seasons, ensuring that Charlie and Nick would be back for at least season 2 and season 3. In case you hadn’t realized by now, we definitely recommend Heartstopper as a pick-me-up, heart-warming watch!

Heartstopper season 2 premiered in August 2023, and the highly anticipated third season will make its premiere sometime in 2024.
