Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is arguably one of the best anime series to come to Netflix in 2023. The first season was released on the streaming platform on Nov. 17, and tons of people began watching and enjoying the animated show. In fact, it’s sitting at the No. 4 on the streamer’s top 10 TV shows list as of Nov. 20.

It’s a pretty easy show to binge-watch with there only being eight episodes that are a little under 30 minutes each. And once you make it to the post-credits scene in the season 1 finale, I’m sure you’ll be left wondering about a potential Scott Pilgrim Takes Off season 2. Unfortunately, Netflix has not revealed whether or not the animated show will be returning with a second installment.

But this isn’t surprising at all because the first season just recently came out. It’s not often that Netflix renews a new show so soon after its first season drops. We’ll likely be waiting a while before the streamer comes to a decision. But in the meantime, we’ve learned some new details about a potential Scott Pilgrim Takes Off season 2 from the creators. And sadly, it’s not all good news…

Spoilers from Scott Pilgrim Takes Off season 1 ahead.

Before we get into what the show creators said about a second season, we must first talk about how the season 1 ending could be a set up to a Scott Pilgrim Takes Off season 2. In the post-credits scene, we see Gideon Graves/Gordon Goose and Julie sitting in a room full of computers monitoring Scott’s life.

Gideon makes a comment and says, “Time for the real game to begin.” Julie then follows up by saying, “The Goose is loose. Honk-honk [bleep].” I don’t know about you, but based on this scene, it looks like Gideon isn’t done messing around with Scott and Ramona, which could be what a potential second season is about.

However, this post-credit scene wasn’t meant to be taken seriously or used as a set up for a future season, according to show co-creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. O’Malley told Decider in an interview that the post-credits scene was just a “fun little parody of post-credit scenes.”

O’Malley and other show co-creator BenDavid Grabinski spoke with TVLine and mentioned that they’ve been “too busy” to focus on a second season. O’Malley said, “It’s really hard to think about what could happen next, especially when we’re producing the show.” Grabinski continued on and said, “We just wanted to make the best show that we could, that had a satisfying ending emotionally and narratively. And then we could think about that other stuff later.”

Although this is sad news, fans will be happy to know that the creators made sure to purposely tell a complete story in the first season just in case the show was not to come back for another season. Grabinski told TVLine, “Obviously we love these characters and this world, but we just put like our entire brains and souls and whatever into these eight.”

Don’t fret, though! When speaking to Decider, O’Malley didn’t completely shoot down the possibility of a second season. He said that if they got the chance to make a Scott Pilgrim Takes Off season 2, they could use the season 1 post-credits scene as a basis for what the season could be about. So, there you have it, folks! That’s all we know about a potential second season at the moment.

We’ll get back to you with new updates if there are any.
