5 rom-com movies to watch on Netflix for Thanksgiving week 2023

Happy Thanksgiving! This week generally consists of lots of food and fun with family and friends. Movie watching is also an activity many partake in after the food coma begins to set in. Netflix has a long list of incredible movies to entertain everyone during Thanksgiving. Below are some great romantic comedy recommendations to consider for your holiday enjoyment.

If rom-coms aren’t your thing, the streamer has a lot of other titles centered around families, including This Is Where I Leave You, an outstanding family drama with a stacked cast. Spider-Man has some Thanksgiving elements thrown in, with a family dinner and a parade, similar to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

If you need an inspirational movie for the family, check out Walk. Ride. Rodeo., based on the true story of Amberley Snyder, a nationally ranked barrel racer who is left paralyzed from a car accident but overcomes many obstacles to return to the sport. The two Enola Holmes movies are another great family choice centered on families.

Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Haley Lu Richardson (Edge of Seventeen) lead the sweet romantic story, Love at First Sight. The story follows the two 20-somethings who meet at an airport and form an immediate bond. Based on Jennifer E. Smith’s novel The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, the movie raises the question of whether traveling on a long flight could alter your life for the better. This is a charming rom-com you won’t want to miss.

Always Be My Maybe

Always Be My Maybe is an outstanding rom-com starring  Ali Wong (Beef) and Randall Park (Jimmy Woo from the MCU), who also wrote the story. While not a Thanksgiving setting, the story is reminiscent of the people who return home during the holidays hoping to reconnect with their high school crushes. It is a light-hearted rom-com that features a hilarious cameo by a very self-aware Keanu Reeves.

Holidate

Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) agree to become each other’s plus one for their holiday invitations. Dubbed a Holidate, non-romantic partners that attends all holiday functions together, the pair believe this an answer to avoid their family’s unending questions regarding their relationship statuses. As with most rom-coms, things become emotionally complicated.

Falling Inn Love

Thanksgiving just doesn’t get enough love in the movies. While Falling Inn Love isn’t a holiday film, it is a sweet and charming romantic comedy that follows a woman who has suffered a string of disappointments and ends up winning an inn in New Zealand. While the inn turns out to be less than she hoped, a friendship blossoms with a local contractor; could it lead to more?

Love Actually

While not a Thanksgiving-themed movie, Love Actually, which turns 20 this year, is a fantastic romantic comedy that will get everyone in the mood for Christmas. Centered around 10 stories interlinked in some fashion, the theme is “Love actually is all around.” What better sentiment for the holiday season? Add to that the ensemble cast, and you won’t want to miss it. This one isn’t a movie you want to watch with the kids.
