Netflix has so much content in its library! Now, some of it is a miss, but there’s also lots of great hits as well! Just think about Outer Banks, Emily in Paris, Stranger Things, and so many more. One show that’s definitely popular on the streamer, and one of my personal favorites, is Bridgerton!

With the highly-anticipated upcoming third season, we think that Bridgerton season 3 is the Netflix season with an incredible amount of hype surrounding it, maybe even rivaling that of Stranger Things season 4. As a reminder, the wait between the third and fourth seasons of the sci-fi series was nearly three years!

There’s a few reasons we think Bridgerton season 3 is getting all this hype right now. First, everyone loves a good romance mixed with a period piece. Two, we’re getting a fan-favorite love story – Penelope Featherington – with the mystery of whether Colin will find out her secret identity as Lady Whistledown. And finally, the wait. While it’s agonizing to to be patient between seasons, it also builds that excitement we all thrive on.

Need more of an explanation on our thoughts? Dive deeper into the three reasons as we detail them below!

Romance + period setting = the perfect formula

Let’s be real. Many of us are romantics at heart. There’s something about shipping a couple in a fictional series that gets our own passions going. We root for them, cry with them, and definitely cheer and awe when they’re happy together. If you add all of that to a story that takes place in the past, especially the Regency era, I’m personally gone for! Like, I’m a complete sucker for this kind of content.

And Bridgerton knows how to do it so well. We started off with Daphne and Simon in season 1. Both worked together with no intention of falling in love. But we all knew where that was headed! Then came Anthony and Kate in the second season. A forbidden and secret romance of sorts between two very stubborn people. But it’s ok, it all worked out in the end!

In season 3, it’s Colin and Penelope’s turn to potentially find love together. While the Bridgerton brother has unfortunately always been unaware of his friend’s feelings for him, we know that Colin is going to start to develop and realize his own feelings toward Penelope based on the synopsis. But she’s ready to move on from him. I’m sensing jealousy and longing is in their future. Bring it on! I mean, just look at that photo of the two above. If that doesn’t scream intense onscreen chemistry, I don’t know what does.

It’s these beautifully crafted stories and romances that truly bring everything to life, and make us eager for more. I also think the fact that the show has given us a little look at each of the Bridgerton siblings‘ personalities has kept us invested. And it’s a great formula – the focus is on one sibling at a time per season. That’s going to automatically keep us wanting to come back for more!

Fan-favorite Penelope is the star, but is her identity going to be revealed?

What’s intriguing about Penelope’s story is that she has a secret identity – Lady Whistledown. Everyone and their mother in the ton, as well as Queen Charlotte herself, are reading her entries. In a way, she controls the narrative of her community and how people judge and see each other. But one thing Lady Whistledown has done that’s going to backfire is writing and exposing a lot of things about the Bridgerton household.

Not only is that going to put her in a difficult position with Colin himself if he ends up finding out in the new season, but it has also hurt her bestie Eloise. At the end of season 2, the strong-minded Bridgerton gal found out that Penelope is actually Lady Whistledown. As we saw the lengths Penelope went through to keep her identity a secret, and how invested Eloise was in trying to uncover the culprit, we’re now going to get the aftermath of that discovery.

Tie in Colin potentially finding out – that personally has me on pins and needles just thinking about it. I know I’m going to be wondering the whole time, or if there’s times that it cuts close, whether it’s going to be the moment of truth between the couple. It’s that kind of mystery and anticipation that keeps us hooked!

The agonizing wait any TV fan suffers

Now this is definitely a negative, and probably the most difficult part about being a fan of a show. But, we do have to admit that the wait between seasons does build up that anticipation for us. And while we wait, we get nuggets of information here, and a sprinkling of new looks there. From premiere date information, casting, promotional images, and eventual trailers. The excitement continues to grow and grow.

And that’s why I think these three reasons combined, are making Bridgerton season 3 the most hyped season on Netflix since Stranger Things season 4. I don’t think anything is going to reach that particular level. But, Bridgerton comes pretty close. The second season came out in March 2022. And I’m so nervous that we’re going to end up waiting two years for the debut of the third season. Though I think that’s a potential reality we’re going to have to come to terms with.

We don’t have a release date yet, though it was rumored a December 2023 streaming release could have happened. But Lady Danbury actress Adjoa Andoh revealed that the new season isn’t coming until 2024. And so, Netflix might decide to wait until March 2024 to keep in line with the second season’s premiere window.

Personally, I’m just excited and hyped for the next installment in the Bridgerton story! This is one of my favorite shows and no matter how long it takes, I’m going to wait for it. Us fans might be impatient, but what other choice do we have? We’ll happily await the new season, and completely freak out in the best way possible once it’s here. My binge game is on.
