Bridgerton season 3 gets disappointing release update from star Adjoa Andoh

We have some bad news to share with fans of Bridgerton, and it’s about the Bridgerton season 3 release date on Netflix. Adjoa Andoh, who stars as Lady Danbury in Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, revealed in several to Hello! that the Bridgerton season 3 release date will be sometime in 2024.

For months, we’d been expecting the Bridgerton season 3 to be released on Netflix in December 2023. The release date of Dec. 14 for season 3 allegedly leaked during TUDUM 2023 in June. Since then, we’d been thinking that’s when Bridgerton season 3 would arrive, right before or around Christmas Day 2023. The first season premiered in December 2020, and it was a massive success.

Over the last month or so, we started to get worried about Bridgerton season 3. It’s been pretty much crickets from Netflix and everyone about Bridgerton season 3. Obviously, it makes sense because the WGA was on strike from May to October, basically, and SAG is still on strike and has been since July. Now, it looks like our fears were warranted.

Adjoa Andoh confirms Bridgerton season 3 release date is in 2024

Andoh was asked by Hello! about the fans and how they should feel about Penelope and Colin (Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton) being the featured couple of the season. Here’s what Andoh told the outlet:

"“It’s very gratifying because we’ve held our breath for a long time. Because of the way the year’s panned out and that the season’s going to come out next year, the anticipation is going to grow and grow. “"

Production on Bridgerton season 3 ended this spring, so there should have been enough time to finish the season, but it’s possible that the WGA and SAG strikes lasting throughout the summer and into fall stopped post-production work on the season, meaning that it’d be a stretch to get the season finished for a December release date.

Netflix has not confirmed when exactly Bridgerton season 3 is coming out, but the silence has been deafening. Bridgerton is one of the biggest shows on Netflix, and if it was coming back this quarter, given what’s happening with the streamer, they’d want everyone to know as soon as possible that one of their favorite shows is coming back within a few months.

While it’s self-inflicted in many ways, there’s a production pipeline issue in the entertainment industry. There are a bunch of big shows coming to Netflix later this year and next year, but because the AMPTP didn’t keep the writers and actors working this summer, there’s going to be big delays for a number of projects. I have a feeling that’s one of the reasons why Bridgerton season 3 is not reportedly coming in 2023.

Think of it this way: if Netflix had new seasons of Stranger Things, The Night Agent, Wednesday, Outer Banks, You, Ginny and Georgia, Emily in Paris, and other big shows coming in 2024, for sure, there’s no reason to hold Bridgerton until 2024. They could have, assuming the season was done, around Christmas 2023 and then roll into a huge 2024 with potentially seven of the biggest Netflix shows of all time back for new seasons.

Well, the strikes delayed all of those shows. Some of the seasons haven’t even been written. We’re looking at some of those shows returning in 2024, but many will be bumped to 2025. That means Netflix has a year of content to provide for subscribers. Yes, there are some shows and movies finished and ready to be released, but Netflix will likely need to spread the love around next year and space out its big shows and movies a little bit more creatively. And, of all of the shows, Bridgerton season 3 is likely one of the biggest seasons of a show that Netflix has ready to go or almost ready to go.

Now that we know Bridgerton season 3 isn’t coming in 2023, it’s possible we could be waiting until the spring, summer, or even fall of 2024 until Bridgerton season 3 is released. I think it’s likely that we could see Bridgerton season 3 in the spring of summer of 2024, but I don’t think it’s going to be released early in the year. It’s probably a Q2 or Q3 release at this point.

The kicker is that the SAG strike is not over yet. Netflix and the AMPTP still haven’t signed the union to a new deal, so until that happens, the wait for Bridgerton season 3 and many other new seasons of Netflix shows will continue.

To recap, Bridgerton season 3 is not coming to Netflix in 2023. Fans will have to wait until 2024 to see Penelope and Colin’s love story, according to Anjoh. It’s more disappointing news for fans of the series, who recently learned Phoebe Dynevor, who stars as Daphne, is not coming back in season 3.
