What’s going on with All of Us Are Dead season 2? (Is it still happening?)

One of the most highly anticipated Korean shows on Netflix would have to be All of Us Are Dead. I’d even take it a step further and say that it is the best Korean series on the streaming platform, but that’s just my opinion. Many would argue that Squid Game is, and I completely understand. Do you know what these two shows have in common? There are no release dates for their upcoming second seasons. What’s up with that?

Well, there’s more information on the Squid Game season 2 front than there is on All of Us Are Dead season 2. Netflix will even be releasing a reality competition series soon called Squid Game: The Challenge, which is based on the Korean survival drama series. This will surely keep fans entertained until the second season comes out. But what about All of Us Are Dead? It’s been pretty much crickets and radio silence since the show’s renewal back in June 2022.

The only update we’ve had so far was that production hadn’t started yet. Back in March 2023, All of Us Are Dead star Park Ji-hu told Teen Vogue in an interview that filming hadn’t begun. Many months have passed since then, and we still haven’t heard any word about the cast and crew filming the second season. This leads us to question if All of Us Are Dead season 2 is even happening anymore.

After doing our research, we discovered that the zombie series is definitely still a go at Netflix. There have been no reports or news of the streamer scrapping the show. It’s just taking an unusually long time to be made, and we have an idea of why this might be happening.

First, let me start by saying that this isn’t the first Netflix Korean series that’s taken a long time to be made. Squid Game, Hellbound and Sweet Home are just some Korean shows that should be back with new seasons already but aren’t yet.

The first season of Sweet Home came out in December 2020, and the second season will finally be released almost three years later in December 2023. Squid Game and Hellbound both came out in 2021. Where are their second seasons? So, it’s not that surprising that All of Us Are Dead season 2 isn’t out already.

We think that the main reason why the second season is taking so long is because many of the cast and crew members have been busy working on other projects. For example, Park Ji-hu has been working on an upcoming Korean drama called Spirit Fingers. Additionally, fellow co-star Yoon Chan-young has been working on an upcoming drama series titled I Became a High School Student As a Gangster.

The show’s creators, Chun Sung-il, Lee Jae-kyoo, and Kim Nam-su, were also working on other shows. Chun Sung-il was working on the popular K-Drama King the Land, and Lee Jae-kyoo and Kim Nam-su were working on the Korean drama Daily Dose of Sunshine. Both of these shows came out in 2023.

Since it’s a South Korean production, All of Us Are Dead has not been affected in any way by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. So, it looks like the lengthy hold-up is coming from the cast and crew being busy working on other things. Hopefully, we’ll hear some good news about the second season by the end of this year.
